So I've got one of the H&R A1 upper receivers and a set of the beat up surplus A1 furniture from Numrich, and I'm debating what I want to do with them. Currently leaning towards doing a faux dissipator in 350 Legend so I've got a rifle I can use to hunt in Michigan with my great uncle, however there's a couple spots that have me a tad hesitant to commit yet.

The largest one is whether M16 style receiver can feed a straight walled cartridge like the 350 Legend reliably, especially since all the 350 Legend barrels out there use M4 style ramps to my knowledge. The other problem I forsee is that I'm not certain whether the gas block for a faux dissapator in such a caliber will fit under the A1 rifle handguards. Any input?

M4 ramps on a rifle upper ain't ideal, but it'll work. I've got 2 done that way, but they are 5.56. I'm sure you know this, but your other issue is going to be having to get a FSB and end cap mounted on whatever barrel you choose in the rifle-length position. A low-pro gas block will probably work, seeing as how most of the .350 legend barrels are carbine gas, putting it towards the rear where the handguard is larger. Sounds like a fun project.

I know the ramp difference is functional on the .223, but I'm just concerned I'll be barking up the wrong tree with the straight walled cartridge and end up creating a jam city pos

I think I'd just use whatever .350 barrel Faxon sells

I've liked their barrels for my 308 and 5.56 rifles, the 16" .350L seems to be out of stock everywhere I usually buy their barrels from however. I have plenty of parts left to buy while I wait them out if needed, otherwise it'll probably be a BA barrel.

There's no need to open up the port. 350L is just a straightened .223.

Honestly, wouldn't be that hard to do the flat top route, I just already have a set of A1 furniture and upper on hand so Im debating doing this purely off of the fact that I've got it and not because it's my only option

sell it to me...

i'll be through ur neck of the woods 15th of april. we can haggle it out then. or when i get back from new zealand middle of june.

my nephew over in livingstone county was commenting how nice it is to have an LPVO even downstate for seeing shooting lanes, and counting racks even at 50-60 yards first and last light. that's why i'd go at top.

I used an Aero Precision XL receiver for my 350 L build. M4 ramps on a Shaw custom barrel and no problems at all. The Aero receiver was already opened up slightly to accommodate the "bigger bore" cases. Being in Michigan and frequenting the state range near me I get to see a lot of Legend builds. Those that haven't opened the ejection port a little often have ejection problems which leads to a jam or two now and then. Just my two cents. OH also, one of the range officers had a Bear Creek that had some feed problems. He finally took a file to the ramps and opened them up a little and she runs fine now. Good luck with your build!! It's a fun little round. I see now they make a 400 Legend with 20% less recoil than the 450 Bushmaster. So many toys to play with!!

Proper prior practice prevents piss poor performance!
