Shot one many year back, not overwhelmed at all....

Picked this one up and ventured over to DDs backyard range:

'Better'

It was 'only' 20 yards, but this isn't all that bad IMHO for a takedown....

10 shots Norma TAC 22

My buddy brought a Ruger charger takedown to the range yesterday. It shot surprisingly well. I was pretty impressed, considering it had a red dot on it. It was shooting 3 shots into 1/2" at 50 yards, with TAC22 and federal automatch. Very acceptable accuracy for what it is. It also ran flawlessly without any hiccups. Digital Dan's range doesn't go to 50 yards?

It does, but I found out what I needed....

I’m gonna start using the left group on the first target as a signature. Some people I know think I’m a dick…

Muffin, you should show some pics of your takedown. I've seen some with the magpul stocks and they look slick. My buddies charger was different, yet it was similar in that it is a takedown model. It came with a nice Ruger soft case. The charger had a detachable bi-pod, a folding brace, came with a bx15 magazine and my buddy put one of his suppressors on it. I am like you and was quite surprised with it's performance. I've heard some of the takedown models were extremely accurate, and others not so much. You must have gotten a good one. No one else here has one? I'm surprised that no one else has commented on yours. I was actually so impressed with my friends, that I told him I may get one.

This one has an aftermarket stock.....

Additionally the barrel 'tension nut' or barrel adjustment knob??? was screwed in all the way and not 'finger adjustable' - fixed that....

If that's the way the previous owner shot it then it likely didn't shoot for chitt, barrel noticeably loose when assembled in that configuration..... and perhaps why it looks like it was barely shot.....

I read the manual on barrel assembly and things snugged right up.... it's possible he kept 'turning the collar' the wrong way. I had to use plyers, wrapped with a rag, to get it loose...

Mine shoots a solid 3/4” at 50 yards with a few different loads. The bad part is that the scope base screws stripped with pretty minimal torque when I was changing bases, so I’ve got to figure something out.

That sucks. I believe they make an "oversized" base screw for these, if that happens. I've seen this before, thankfully none of mine have been that way. Good to bring this up though. Go easy on that torque. Use blue loctite, so they do not back out on you, but go easy on the torque!!

They shoot decent for what they are but don't hold zero for a dmn with disassembly and reassembly which sucks because that's what their draw is all about

Try a cantilever mount on the barrel.

I saw that yesterday with my buddies. It was all dialed in last time we had it out, then comes yesterday. He puts it all together and it's shooting 5 inches low!!! He had to rezero the red dot, I can't think of what else could have caused that. He was thinking it might have been the can, but I'm thinking it's a mechanical issue. Barrel to receiver lockup and return to zero issue??

I don't own a Ruger takedown, but the cantilever mount is what is needed for the Browning and older Remington takedowns.

Too close for irons, switching to scope...
