What is this? I’ve always called it my petrified head. Came from a creek bed in an ancient coastal plain in LA. Wetting and rubbing makes mud but eventually gets down to smooth hard surface. Have not scrubbed clean yet. Bottom looks like molten landed on a hard surface. Also note the fissure on top. Weighs 25 pounds.
Colossians 3:17 (New King James Version) "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

I’m thinking along those lines. The weight seems heavy for the circumference so wondering if it hides some mineral ore. Crystal content could push weight up too.

Seriously, it's hard to say what it is without looking at a fresh surface. It could just be a garden variety stream cobble that formed a circle of mineralization at the base from sitting in an evaporite environment.

Or not.
Yeah I need to get the scrub brush out and soap it down. It’s funny feeling. When you handle it there’s a feeling of a dried dirt ball. But in the time I’ve had it there hasn’t been a perceptible degradation of the surface. Dirt seems to just stay adhered.

I've got one that feels similar, it's a pseudo fossil, called a septarian nodule. Search up some photos, looks similar to yours.
