Been on the lookout for a deal on a 722 257 Roberts for a while now and finally scored a deal.
Really clean with a gloss Leupold 3-9x40 AO scope included for 6 bills, plus tax.
Figure the scope is worth 1/2 the price. Unmolested with the exception of sling swivel studs and a shiny bore.
EUU on the barrel and serial no. 8762x
Any help with the manufacturer date?

My first .257 Roberts was a 722. It was a great rifle. I ended up getting overstocked ammo from the local hardware store for penny's on the dollar. They were Winchester 115 grain RN and in that rifle shot 1/2 minute of angle. Who'da thought?

I was fortunate to buy Mike Walker's personal deer rifle from him. It is a 722 in 257 Roberts. It has a Lyman Alaskan scope.

I went thru a M70 push feed fwt with the 2.8" mag and a M700 mtn rifle with sa and mag in 257R. After that I quit looking at them until I found a M77 rl with a 3.1" mag. It shoots and you can seat the bullets to get accuracy as well as fitting in the mag. As far as I'm concerned Stick hit it on the nose..OP it was still a good buy, if it don't measure up you can still.make some money on it..mb

I've got another Bob in a Kimber Classic Select. Gorgeous rifle that I took to Africa on my 1st trip and have taken a few other critters with as well, just a little to nice to use hard.
Been looking for a couple years for a decent buy and did want one of these old Remingtons.
It doesn't need to perform miracles and the reality of it, it will never be used for anything over 200 yards and 99% of any use will be 30-100 yards. I'm sure it will do just fine at those distances with a short mag box or not.
I'm happy and more excited about it than anything new and shiny sitting on most gun store shelves or what I have in my safe.

I've never run into any COAL issues when loading bullets in the 75 to 100 grain range in any of my short action rifles that are chambered in 257 Roberts, 257 AI, or 25-284 I would agree that case lengths 51mm and shorter allow for longer/heavier bullets to be loaded without running into COAL issues, but the 25 Souper has never been a commercial option and has never been a popular wildcat.
I've shot a pile of coyotes with the 75 grain Sierra HP and Hornady VMax, plus more than a few whitetails with a variety 87, 90, 100, 110, and 115 grain bullets. I prefer to load the 110 grain AB in my long action 0.257" bore rifles for medium game, but if there are COAL issues that 100 grain Partition has never failed to do the job.
AFAIK, since the end of WW2 Remington only cataloged one long action bolt gun in 257 Roberts, the 700 Classic in 1982.

I have the same thing. Mine is 1951. It was always one of the top performing rifles we had for normal hunting situations like calling. It was one of the first center fires I used when I was growing up. I had a lot of firsts with it like first running shot and first long shot. Long for the Roberts is 280 yards. It was impressive back then. The only gripe I have about it is the recoil damages the Spitzer tips when you have a full mag.

Pardon Ballistics 101 and SIMPLISTIC Facts, upsetting you ladies in sucha' fashion. I don't feel compelled to "apologize",for simply shooting it all and then some, while you gals Google aloud, with your Imagination and Pretend. Hint.
Fhuqking LAUGHING!.............

Funny that Considering the weather where you live I can easily put more rounds downrange than you can over a years time.
