next week warm weather will blast the morel season into full gear.. its two weeks late and lots of ground moisture... some 70-80 degree temperatures will bring em on.....

followed by the wonderful corals, spring kings, and some choice odds and ends.

know your science, study the books, no guesswork.. get second opinions, and test for personal tolerance in small bites first... five weeks crawling the ridges and slopes and brushy patches... ticks? well yeah.

but easier to catch and carry mushrooms than big game..

anyone else?

How's long term preservation on those work? Can them?

I'm assuming they're normal eating mushrooms and not the getting high kind. If I'm wrong, disregard.

we clean them of debris, cut in two lengthwise to remove buglets, and sauté in a bit of butter/olive oil/til the water cooks out.. then its eat or freeze in ziploc sandwich bags..

to eat reheat, brown until they sizzle and start to snap or crackle... some like to bread them we just brown and serve, or mix with shrimp in stir fry...or a side dish with or on a good steak...

and no, I do not chase the hallucinogenic mushrooms...I am too old and the hills are too steep for that type kind of pursuit...

washington and oregon HUGE mushroom states...longer seasons and more predictable moisture... at 2200 elevation we are just starting the season. still snowy on our coral mushroom elevations of 3000 feet and above.
