Boss sent me to pick up the new zero turn he just bought, salesman started it up and went inside to do the invoice, I drove the mower across the lot and loaded it on the trailer. On the way across the lot I heard a slight ticking, I set the parking brake got off went back by the engine revved it up to full speed and the ticking changed to a loud knocking and the engine seized up.

Lol, I smoked a brand new 36hp briggs inside of 60 seconds!

Salesman said he'd get me new mower or put a new engine in it as soon as possible.

Did they put oil in it? That sounds like a dry engine.

A salesman probably put a quart of gas in it and tore the 'add oil' tag off the oil cap. He probably drives an EV. He'll need it to look for a new job tomorrow.

I checked the oil in it before he started it, it was full. Boss and I were talking about it and we figure it was either put together wrong or it was started and then they realized it didn't have oil in it so they put oil in it and put it out on the floor.

They will be able to tell if it had oil in it or not when it was first started, if there is metal transfer between the crank and the rod then it was ran with no oil.

I have always had great service from a Briggs. Push mower size. I bought a Briggs powered Mower in 2005. It was left outside for much of its life. 2 oil changes in its life. Drained the carb twice. Changed the spark plug once. It was still running fine in 2020 when the pull cord broke. Hell, when I filled it up with gas, I could see the water in the bottom of the tank. I "treated" myself to a new Honda powered mower. I can't keep the damn thing running.

Kawasaki or Honda for the win. Neither will even start with no or low oil.
