Went to the range yesterday, was a beautiful day by the way. First one in a long time here.
Anyway was shooting my 1952 99 with some different loads. My hand loads were shooting pretty good, I thought, till I tried a box I had of Hornady 150gr SST Superformance.
Wow! Three groups were at 1” or less. My 99 has a Lyman tang sight on it and this ammo was half the size of my hand loads.
I doubt if I can shoot it better with a scope. We have a 20” gong at 200yds and I rang it 3 times in a row.
When I got home I tried to order a few boxes because of the performance in my rifle.
Everyone is out and I probably won’t be able to buy any till hunting season. Did find the 150gr SST Savage bullet which is shorter, I believe. Ordered a box. Maybe I can get them to shoot as well, but I doubt it.
Anyone have a sure fire recipe for this bullet in their 99? Has anyone else found this ammo to be as accurate in their rifles.

You might go back thru the last 5 years or so of the Hodgdon load manual and see if there are any Superperformance recipes for the 300 sav.mb

How was Your extraction? I have only tried three shots of 308 Superformance through my 99, the sticky extraction scared me off. Do you know 300 Savage Superformance velocity?

Another small gun show today, what little 300 Savage ammo was $80.00 a box bag of new 303 brass 50 of them $150.00, all I bought was a coffee. But stopped at a small gun shop on the way home, bought a box of Graf & Sons 303 Savage for $20.00 out the door, it was with some 303 Brit. Ammo, guy said he's had it awhile. Glad to sell it!

Advertised velocity is 2740fps. I bought one box several years back. Shot 3-4 rounds and they extracted pretty stiff in my 300, so I ended up just pulling the rest for the brass. That rifle had pretty terrible headspace, though.

Man, that is nuts 🤯 I've been seeing a bit of new production Rem green box 150gr at a couple stores around here lately for $50-ish.

Jeff, my extraction was as usual. Not stiff or hard. Recoil wasn’t to much more than my handload.

Like ZCM said, 2740fps. I doubt my load is any where near that. Maybe theirs isn’t either. 😁

I would like to think the surprising accuracy was the bullet. It is different than a standard Hornady 150gr Interlock. I found a box of 100 on the internet but they are expensive and only time will tell if they live up to it.
Reason for this post was to find out if anyone was using this specific bullet and what they’re experience with it was.

I didn't put them through the chronograph, so no idea if they were anywhere near the listed velocity. Some factory stuff is pretty close, and some isn't even in the same ballpark 🤷‍♂️

I had very good accuracy with that #30303 bullet with Win 748 in a 300 EG; just under an inch. I have not shot a deer with it.

Midway recently had 2nds of that bullet in stock.

Interesting, thanks. The kind of information I was looking for. Of course I don’t have any Win748. But I could. 👍

I load the 130 Barnes for my 99. They are less than an inch, but that’s with a 3.5x10 scope.

Is the Superformance the evolution of the old Hornady Light Magnums?” I still have a box of them. A friend got a box for his ‘06. They were said to get 300 Wim Mag velocities out of an ‘06. I pulled the trigger on my friend’s Winchester M70 and my fillings in my teeth rang like the Church bell choir. I was expecting a normal ‘06. That was the most vicious kick I’ve ever felt. I think he shot two rounds and so did I. Must have been 30 years ago. The rest are still downstairs.

My two best loads in my 300 99:
300 Savage, Savage 99, 130 TTSX, Barnes, 9 ½, 43 grains H4895, 1.18 MOA
300 Savage, Savage 99, 150 FB Hornady, 9 1/2, 40 grains Varget, also 1.18 MOA

I ran out of TTSX that year due to working up loads, I shot the Hornady's resulting in four bang-flop dead white tail does. I had a M8- 4X scope on it. I shot more than a hundred rounds through that 99 that summer. I think that I'll be satisfied with these two loads. I don't think any of those does were over 150 yards away though.

Tried to duplicate it somewhat with some hand loads. 41 gr of Varget under some 150 partitions. The targets are kind of a modified ladder test. Good enough to whack a buck no problem.

I have tried the Superperformance in every rifle and caliber that I have, as have my buddies at hunting camp and there are 10 of us. Not one of us has experienced anything other than terrible groupings with the stuff, yet I hear of guys say its incredible. Wish it worked in my guns as I like the concept. For factory ammo, all my 300's love Remington 150 grn core-locks.

For factory ammo, all three of my 99s in 300 Sav like Federal blue box 150s. The EG and the F both shoot right at an inch at 50 yds with factory irons. The RS with Redfield receiver sight often goes 3/8" when my eyes cooperate.

For handloads 150 Interlocks over 40.8 of IMR 4064, at 2570 fps, give the same results as the blue box.

I'm thinking of giving the 130 TTSXs a try, though I doubt that I'll gain much, in on game performance, out to 150 yds, over the Interlocks.

I have been using 160 grain FTX cannulured for the 308 Mx.

I use lever lotion powder.

Very happy with it in the 300 savage.
