Just ran up to the liquor store looking for the Woodford KY Derby edition but they were sold out.

I walked into the store five minutes after opening and 11 guys were in line chatting like a bunch of school girls how they were able to get this Old Forester. WDs was limiting them to one only and had twelve bottles. Not knowing the specifics, I grabbed the last, based on all the commotion. It was $81.00.

Did I score something special?

Time for some good old fashioned virtue signaling.

Who bought the most expensive/rare bourbon?

If the barrel was well chosen it could be very nice. I'm a fan of Old Forester in general, and I have several of their variations on my bar right now.

In the ridiculous state of today's market $81 dollars isn't a bad price of entry for what this could turn out to be.

Please don't pollute this potential gem with ice or mixer. Try it straight. If it's a bit much for your palate add a few drops of still water. Try it again. Rinse and repeat until you hit the sweet spot for you.

Haven't had it but would have done exactly as you did and bought it to try. Higher proof than I usually care for, as a neck pour especially. For what its worth, Ill typically open a full proof bottle like that, take a pour out of the neck and then let the bottle rest for 60 days or more. Makes it much more palatable to me, generally speaking. I totally would have bought this tho, good snag!

Regular Old Forester is my standard for bourbon. Not expensive and tasty. 86 proof is just about perfect. It is not my absolute favorite but always a good choice.
Love Bowman brothers small batch. In more than one case I like the small batch better than single barrel stuff.

Yep. Just a little sweet.

I also drink heavily peated single malt, so most Bourbon is on the sweet side to me. I like it too.

Old Forester, Four Roses and Redneck Riviera are all decent daily drinkers.

I don't know about the last one, but I wouldn't put a blanket description on the first two brands. They both have more than one tier to their line, the upper ones containing what I'd consider to be pretty nice sipping whiskey.
