At rainshadowlabradors.com we pride ourselves in producing excellent Lab Puppies who are conditioned and trained (Yes, at 10 weeks!) to LISTEN!
Our puppies never live feral when humans are present. They respect the gate, they respect the food tray, they respect the person (jumping, yapping, etc), they're learning all the commands related to a leashed walk around the property, they're learning 100% proper fetching form during play training sessions, they listen for command, they listen for release, they are already programmed to respect... yes, at 10 weeks!
They're "Started" and ready for you to take over!
We don't use negative re-enforcement, we don't use treat training, (although you could incorporate either, seamlessly) and we've had AMAZING results in our pups!
Pups have dew claws removed, ENS therapy from Day 5, RainShadow Puppy Conditioning from 4 weeks, De-worming, Immunization Shots 1 and 2, and are AKC papered without restrictions.
(Parents are both OFA Excellent Hips & Normal Elbows, live a hunting/companion lifestyle, and have perfect eyes and health. Sire has 18 Blings on his pedigree, including a great grandfather NAFC.)
"The Church can and should help modern society by tirelessly insisting that the work of women in the home be recognized and respected by all in its irreplaceable value." Apostolic Exhortation On The Family, Pope John Paul II
Back home from a working weekend, and back into ENS therapy...
The sessions are different now that we have Eyes and Ears, in addition to Nose!
I'm doing every step of the therapy with the puppy right in my face, giving it calming reassuring tones, and then loves and snuggles AS SOON as the puppy stops struggling. This is INSTANTLY being received and understood by these babies, as they immediately go into deeper calm and trust. (Oh. Ok... you've got me, I'm ok.)
Seems minor and inconsequential, but I'm finding it's huge in establishing the trust and reliance on the human for security and calm.
We start the ENS Therapy at day 4, as they get to this age (26 days) we’re ending ENS and transitioning to food dish manners.
The last stage of ENS is with a different focus: Puppy making eye contact with me, hearing me, relating the familiar breath with the voice… THEN I give positive feedback when the switch from struggle to calm.
Through this exercise, they’re prepared to see me, hear my voice, and understand that when I switch to positive feedback (the praising, loving, happy-with-them affectionate voice) that they’re doing the desired behavior. They’re ready to start sitting and waiting for their food… and they’re not even weaning yet!
I am also looking for a very worthy recipient of one of these excellent pups for free. Prefer youth or senior who is both prepared and interested, but I will consider any worthy nominations.
Ideal hunting or service pups. They’ll be prepared for training and assimilation better than any other puppies on the market.
My 11 and 12yo boys would love a new puppy to raise and hunt over. They are just getting to the size where they can hold up a shotgun OK and I intend to get them after some chuckars, pheasants, and ducks. I was trying to wait until you had a yellow but we currently have a non-hunting chocolate that we got at 6yo when our last dog got run over. Trying to help some broken hearts mend meant a bit of a rushed decision and the previous owner said she was OK around guns, not so.
Short video describing how I introduce the first servings of puppy food to the pack… attention goes to the HUMAN, not the food. Setting a lifelong pattern.
Where in WA? My wife and I are wanting to get a puppy for our children. We live on acreage and someone is always home, so we think it might be manageable.
