I am trying to scope a K98 in 8mm but the God forsaken safety will not let me....unless I leave it on fire permanently. Way too tall and hits the ocular in the rear of scope. This is a loaner gun which belongs to Hunting with Heroes. A non-profit organization which brings disabled Vets out to Wyoming and lets them hunt on donated tags. huntingwithheroes.org
Anyway, not all disabled vets can afford a rifle so we will furnish this for them with my loads.
Any solutions would be appreciated. Thank you all.

There are several choices. One is to use a Timney Buehler type safety. That requires a bit of fitting to the cocking piece (and buying the safety, obviously). Another is to install a Timney trigger with a side safety. You will have to remove some wood on the side to get the safety clearance to work. May also have to grind a bit from the bolt shroud. I is expensive and time-consuming to set up a K98 for scope mounting. The drill and tap job has to be done in the correct place, or you will plant a hole in the middle of the lug abutment. The bolt handle has to be replaced (ideally) or forged for scope clearance. The safety itself has to be changed for scope mounting. Finally, if you are working with an original, unmodified K98, you are about to devalue a war trophy that is worth $1500-2000 in good shape and worth $300 in sporterized condition. Proceed with caution. I do this type of work, but I only work on guns that have previously been altered beyond restoration. K98 Example by .com/photos/24542443N04/]jakefromclemson, on [bleep]

You might want to consider a scout scope mount that goes in the rear sight base if it still has the military barrel. Solves the issue with needing to change trigger, safety, or bolt. Not everyone's cup of tea but should be able to do base and rings for less than $50 and a decent scope can be had for $100-$250 depending on requirement.

Put on a two position one, you can return it to original condition when and if you need to
