I found a new, unopened jug of Reloder 16 buried behind all of the other powders on my reloading shelves. I don’t remember when or why I bought it, but probably it was a while ago. There is not a lot of information about this powder, is it close enough to a more common powder, like H4350 or or similar to use data from that stuff, or is in entirely different? I primarily load for .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, 270 and 250 Savage these days. Would it be good to use in any or all of those cartridges?

R16 works great in the 6.5CM with bullets from 120 to 143grains.

Works great in my 7mm-08 and my 257 Roberts. RL23 and Norma MRP work even better with 115gr or heavier. RL16 is extremely temperature stable.

I'll try it out in both the 6.5CM with the Barnes 127gr LRX and the in the 257R with the 101gr LRX. Thanks!

I like RL16 in .30-06 and in .270, but I haven't seen any for sale in quite a while.

A friend that is an Olympic class shooter suggested it to me for my 6CM instead of H4350. I'm very pleased with the results as temperature stability is great for a winter hunt.

I've used the various 4831s in my 270s for 60 years but decided to try RL16 under 130 TTSXs and was delighted with results in both velocity and accuracy.

RL16 is great in the Creedmoor with 120ish gr bullets. It is similar to RL17, but I think 17 has higher density. Similar charge weights may end up being compressed with 16 where the wet not with 17.

So far, I've only used RL-16 in the 6.5 CM with 127-130 grain bullets and it works great in that application. I see that in Hodgdon's 2023 burn rate chart, RL-16 is right next to H4350, so it should work in most situations where you would use H4350. That covers a lot of applications!

It also has a decoppering agent, which seems to work very well.

It's an excellent powder, suitable for a wide range of cartridges--just like IMR4350 and H4350.

But a lot of the time it couldn't be found--which tends to affect popularity.
