I have chance to pick up several pounds of A4350 at a very good price. I've never used it, but have used both IMR4350 and H4350 in my 243's for a very long time. How does this powder compare to those other two powders in velocity (per grain) and accuracy wise ? I know every rifle is different, just want to get a general idea of how it performs ? Ben

If I recall correctly (always questionable these days) the three are stacked all together in the burn charts so closely that one might expect them to shuffle positions occasionally as a result of lot to lot variations.

I don’t recall ever using A4350, but have used the other two extensively. In light of current cost and supply issues I’ll be interested in following this thread.

My .275 Rigby (7x57) Ruger absolutely loves it under a 145 gr Speer HotCor. Generally will give me ~1" for 5 shots @ 100 yards.

The one batch of A4350 I used had a burn-rate more like H4831 than IMR4350 or H4350.

I’ve had good accuracy with almost everything I tried Accurate 4350 in, but velocity was way slow. I plan on sticking with H4350 or IMR4350 from here on out.

That might explain why it shot 140g Hot cores so closely to H4831sc in my 1-10" 260. Nearly same group. I used it because I could not find H4350. Perfectly satisfied with that although the H4831 was ever so slightly better.
At least I can use use those Speers since I can't find my Gamekings.

I could not get A4350 to shoot 90 grain Hot Cores in my 6mm Rem.to satisfaction. Going back to H4350 after recently finding some.
Not sure if it will make those 6mm Speers work or not until I can find some Sierra's again.

My 308 likes it, browning rifle and 150 gr. Projectile. No complaints. How often do you run across a good deal on powder.

My experience with one batch mirrors this. The stuff worked fine though.

Have you run that over a chronograph?

I just put fifty .308 together, with four different powder charges of A4350. I'll find out monday how it works for me. I purchased it because it was there, and the others were no where to be found about a year ago. Plus it was reasonably priced.

TooTall, I think Mathman ask his question because he may be thinking A4350 is a touch too slow for use in the .308 with a 150-grain bullet. That would be my belief.

Here are the results I got with A4350 compared to IMR4350 and H4350 during some experimenting. The results were published in The Big Book of Gun Gack II, in Chapter 9, "Different Batches of the 'Same' Powder". All three loads used the same brass, primer and bullet, the 100-grain Ballistic Tip, seated to the same depth. The powder charge in all three was 45.0 grains:

Powder----------3-shot groups-----------Muzzle velocity
IMR4350---------1.35---------------------3083
H4350------------1.12---------------------2980
A4350------------1.88---------------------2917

I suspect the accuracy with A4350 would have been better if I'd increased the charge, but the point of the chapter was comparing not only powders with the same number, but different manufacturing lots of supposedly identical powders, in five cartridges from the .22 Hornet to the .270 Winchester.

Accurate 4350 had a recall a while back. Check their website.

This was my experience as well. With that said, I would happily buy more.

Guessing that's a .257 Roberts. Back in the day I used 45.0gn of imr4350/100gn Sierra as per Ken Waters Pet Loads. He was testing the newly released Winchester M70 Featherweight in .257. I ordered and got one of the first runs and still have it. Thanks for all you've done for the shooting community. Art

Art,

Yep, the Remington 722 I inherited from my grandmother!

Thanks,
John

Thanks.

It seems to me it would be pretty slow for that application, but I have not tried it myself.

I’ve only used it in a 30-06 and compared it with H4350. With horn 180 sp it was more accurate than H4350 but a bit slower. I tested this in 2 guns and to me it seemed like the powder node was wider also if that makes sense, like a full grain and a half. Wasn’t as good with the lighter bullets in my tests.
