Anyone here have any experience with this frame/barrel combo? I dont think they made it very long, the breech plug used is pretty funky looking. The 21 inch barrel makes it feel like a nice handy carbine.

Yes, I did. I wish I'd kept it and worked more with it. Nice shot ml for fifty-five years and this was my first non-traditional one. I tried all kinds of BP substitutes and never found a way to eliminate the crud ring ahead of the chamber, hated the flimsy ramrod and never got the accuracy I had with the old timers. I should have tried black and real lead. Mine had a companion 45-70 barrel that was a handful. The QLA was nice for loading but in my opinion was a detriment to accuracy.

I only shot mine to get it zeroed and 1 hunt. I didn't get the same accuracy from it at my Encore ( one hole at 150 yards with 3 shots) but I blamed that on using White Hots over Blackhorn209. But it was easily minuet of milk jug at 100 yards with a 250gr SST and 2 pellets of white hots.

Back in the day, I owned two of them. I thought they were going to be the perfect companion to my 45x209 barrels. I needed .50 cal to hunt in some states. The .50 cal was not the answer.
In order to keep pressures safe on the frame the breech plug is ridiculously long which really affects the flashhole and encourages inconsistent burn rate in my opinion. As mentioned - the T/C QLA system is a solution for a non-existent problem. I had the QLAs turned off and the muzzles re-crowned on all 4 T/C Contender mzldr barrels. Much better accuracy, however, still not acceptable for me in the .50 cal version. Both barrels went down the road.
That being said, I am saddened with the demise of T/C mzldrs, especially sidelocks.
Be well...........................

I haven’t, but I always wanted one! T/C breech plugs are getting hard to find and expensive, good luck in your search. It was suggested to me that I have a machine shop or gunsmith make one. Not sure if that is a viable option.

I have my 209x50 barrel for sale in the classifieds. I have moved on to smokeless and its just sat in the safe for the last 4+ years. It shot well enough for my needs. Breech plug is spotless.

I have a 209x45, the 50 must be MGM or Bullberry?
