Had a question from someone that is looking for a basic set and forget scope to be mounted on a basic deer rifle(Savage Axis or Ruger American). Looking for something $200 or under. I thought of the Burris FFll 3-9x40.What else is out there as a new scope?

Nothing better than that one.

Before I started spending lots more on scopes, I always used Tasco WorldClass 4-16X40. They don't do as well in low light as those which cost more. That's the reason I started spending more; lots more. My last scope is a March 2 1/2-25X52. It is very good in low light, but not as good as a Leupold VX5 3-15X56.

These are somewhat new, but they are developing a good reputation. Made in Korea.

This^^^^^^ Why stray from a tried and proven scope? I will keep using them until I die. They simply work, and work very well..

I recently got one of the new Natchez exclusive Weaver Classics.

It is a 3x9 with the Dual- X Duplex reticle. So far it is EVERY bit as good of a scope as any of the Japanese made Weaver Classics or Philippino made 40/44 Weaver 3x9 scopes I own.

If you can find an older used Leupold 2-7X I think you'll be happy. I have 3, and once you set them they don't move.

Maybe so, but getting them set can take awhile, and a fair amount of ammo while they jump around. Once set, it’s best you forget about moving them, unless you’re eager to repeat that process.

I’m poking fun a bit, but that’s my honest experience with single-spring Leupolds, which is why I moved on to others that aren’t that much “fun”. The Leupolds have been easy to get behind, and look good on older rifles, and when I shot less I could get by with set and forget, but the Burris FF IIs and E1s have been decidedly easier to set, and cost less than used Leupolds.

Nowadays, I gladly pay more for stuff that’s not a compromise, though that’s not what the OP asked about.

As fhuqking HILARIOUS as Reupold is,there's nothing as fhuqking tender as Burris. Hint.

A simplistic zoom change and POA/POI go different ways. Hint.

I've "only" shot Burris Pistole glass(fixed and zoom) as well as the entire lineage for Rifles and they were ALL pieces of fhuqking schit. Posi-lock remains THE greatest optical Goat Fhuqk of All Time! Pardon my simply shooting it all and then some. Even gunned 'em on the initial S/S 77 Swifts(both blued and S/S transition receivers).Hint.
