For reference, I had the exact components on my m69 as did the OP. The shim did indeed cure the problem.
However before I went the shim route I tried a Weigand mount and still had the problem.
I should add that I have Weigands/Holosun's on two GP100, a Security Six and a couple of Blackhawks with zero problems.
So in retrospect, I believe the red dot on a M69 problem lies with the mounting surface on the M69 and not the Holosun.
And btw, I read about the shim fix on the Pro Board site.

I want to put a dot on my 686 Pro Series 4" .357. The Model 686 is an L frame like the M69.

The long gone M69 was my only Smith. Sorry I can't help with your L frame.

I want to put a dot on my 686 Pro Series 4" .357. The Model 686 is an L frame like the M69. Worst case scenario, buy the shim $12.00 bucks! I also have a weigand scope base but i think my sight would of sat way to high if i used it.

If I can avoid shimming by using a different mount in the first place that would be preferable. If not, I'll shimmy.
