I know the number of variables are vast, but what would you consider an acceptable 100 yd group size for an older bolt action .22 with nondescript ammo? Bought a Mauser MS420B last fall - late 30's vintage - scabbed together a scope mounting system that allowed the bolt handle to remain as manufactured. Used a base designed for a Winchester 94-22, then put tall see through rings on that. Mounted a Weaver 2-7 rimfire & finally found an hour to sight it in today. Ammo was literally a ziplock bag full of mix and match loose rounds. At 25 yds off the bench, 15 rounds made one jagged hole roughly 3/8" of an inch. As I was wrapping up I thought what the heck, lets try it at 100 yds. Shot 5 rounds, 4 were in less than an inch, the fifth was out two inches from the group, that could have been me or different ammo. Dropped about 6" from the 25 yard sight in. Back to my question, this seems to be much better than I would have expected at that distance, what experience have other rimfire shooters had at that distance?
Was a good buy for once, I knew what the rifle was & the guy that had it needed money. The bore is mint, just wish my old eyes could shoot the iron sights respectably. Will try to get some photos tomorrow.
Olympic match grade rifles using match ammo are capable of shooting 10 shots into one ragged hole barley larger than 22 caliber at 100. I don't even want a sporter that can't shoot .5" at 50 yards. I don't shoot 22 at 100 anymore.
Have a 10/22 that shot .4ā group at 100 last time I tried it. Also shot 1/4ā at 50.
I'd hold onto that one.
I had a heavy kidd barrel on one that would put 10 shots of eley tenex in a 1in @100. I sold the barrel to get a kidd ultralight barrel, stupid move, doesn't shoot near as good.
Funny path to success. It is a Deluxe version, early '70s vintage, purchased for a song circa 1995. Shot ho-hum, so I went to work on it. Changed the trigger, full length bedded barrel and receiver and picked up a few different ammo brands. WW Power Points were the schizzle..... Weaver El Paso K2.5 with parallax adjusted to 50 yards.
It is also quite fond of SK Standard +

I am..........disturbed.
Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn't any. But this wrongs the jackass. -Twain
Mauser rifles can be exceptionally accurate rifles - I have a few MS350bs and an Mm410b all are amongst my most accurate .22 rifles that I have currently and would likely be capable of excellent accuracy at 100 yards - if I shot them that far (they are all iron sighted or low power scope (Mm410b)). Rifles I have shot at that distance - several Anschutz, Remington 37 and 40X, T/C Benchmark, Coopers, Kimbers and the likes are certainly capable of more than I am - wind, wind and wind along and ammo will be the primary limiting factors.

The current 10 shot NBRSA world record single group at 100 yards is .598" and the 5-10 shot group agg. record is .865",both in unlimited class....

Iāll run my mouth like there was no tomorrow when it comes to casual 50 yard shoots, and I can probably hold my own for a bit
But when things get pushed to 100 all hell breaks loose and the talkers get real quiet real quick and pics get scarce
She never made it past the bedroom door, what was she aiming for...? She's gone shootin..
My Annie's never miss at 50 yards. Never shot much at 100 yards. The sporter weight is more forgiving with various ammo. The heavy barrel is more picky. But I'm talking 10ths.
Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.
