Uncle Dans original southern style is the only ranch dressing.

Ranch was invented in Alaska.

Ranch is just blah most of the time. Once in a while you eat at a place that has STELLAR ranch and that will ruin you forever. Good ranch is nirvana but the rest pretty much sucks. Blue Cheese is the same way.

And of course they make a standard Ranch as well.

Yep. Their Blue Cheese is also good.

Found a brand, Coyote, that's pretty good, too.

Even better. What we do most of the time.

This. ACV, wine, or balsamic are all good.

My goto salad is Romaine, radishes, tomatoes, olives, cukes, and pickled cauliflower tossed with the oil, vinegar, s&p and a little garlic salt, then some grated parmesan. A little bacon, spinach, and hard-cooked eggs don’t hurt it any. Have more fresh lettuce and spinach now from the garden than I can eat.

Ranch is foul. It's for people who don't like salad as it completely masks the taste of salad.

Make my own: And kind of spicy for some.

Ranch Dressing

2 cups Butter Milk

1 cup sour cream

1-ounce Red Apple Cider Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Finely Chopped Green Onion Tops (kind of like Chives) (but better) I like to place it in a tea strainer, holding it over the sink and poor boiling water over is for about 5 seconds, and then empty it into the mix...

1 teaspoon Fresh Savory (Winter or Summer)

1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed, I also like to add a little juice from a jar of Bread & Butter pickles.

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (only if you like Garlic)(I don't personally like it)

1 Tablespoon Chopped Red Chilli Flakes

1 teaspoon salt (maybe too much salt for some)

1 Tablespoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper Corn

Mix all ingredients and stir in spices, if thinner than you like add more sour cream and continue mixing... (I don't like using Mayonnaise)

Similar to my home brew- - - -whole milk buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream or plain yogurt, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh chopped parsley. Keeps for about a week in the fridge. Usually gone long before that!

If its not homemade then I usually go with Hidden Valley Buttermilk.

You're putting too much on the salad then. I think a good ranch compliments the ingredients nicely, especially if you like tomatoes and cheese in your salad.

Hidden valley “homemade” mix with buttermilk, made runny. I hate Sheetrock mud consistency dressing.

That Litehouse brand isn’t bad for store bought though.

Usually skip the ranch and go with Ott’s “French”, sometimes Dorothy Lynch, but they’re both regional flavors, but if you ask for French around here, you’ll likely get one of them.

The whole vinegar and oil thing was new to me until meeting my wife. Hee grandparents only eat that on a salad. I like it.
