The majority of licensed hunters are really old. I hate seeing culled meat go to waste. Hopefully more young hunters will become involved. I think public venison cooking demonstrations might help.

I can fix part of their problem, airfare and boarding required.

Japan makes it nearly impossible to be a hunter.

I think Japan has mostly produced sissy boys for some time, I expect it will be a ongoing problem.

I was at that park in 2001. Mobs of skanky looking deer that literally mugged anybody that had a package of feed they passed out. The wife and I got well out of the way and just watched the chit show.

When I was in the USN I knew a guy that had been stationed in Japan for nearly 20 years. He hunted Sika deer on the island of Hokkaido. He took some really big deer. Had to use a shotgun with slugs but that was not a big deal. The problem was in order to pass the required test for a hunting license it had to be done in Japanese on the forms. How many people do any of you know that can read a right Japanese fluently? He also had all kinds of storage requirements for his gun and had to make special arrangements to travel with it to his hunting area.

But he killed some really nice deer.

It's not easy to get a shotgun permit, let alone a rifle permit in Japan.

I've read that Sika is the best venison. I bet if Leighton had a chance to cook for some large crowds more people would take up the sport.

Story behind that, he told it here back when he did the hunt.

When I ran out of crackers the does would come up behind me and bite my ass. They were rather fond of the handouts. The bucks are very rounded on the tips of their tines and laid back. They were definitely raised there in the city.
