Dan Wesson revolver triggers are mechanically DIFFERENT than S&W triggers, "Sub-par" is pretty subjective when they are just different. If you want to tinker around and try to get a DW to feel like a S&W you'll fug up a good gun. If you want to try out a DW and see how they feel go for it - they're very good guns.
My opinion:
DW revolver triggers are very good in single action, I think better than many S&Ws, but I certainly haven't compared them all!
DW triggers in double action will feel a little weird if you're used to S&W. They have a shorter hammer throw and don't "stage" like a S&W.
In my limited experience I like the DW in single action better, and the S&W in double action better.
