A fellow here in town has two, consecutively serial numbered Model 99s in .250/3000. The fellow said his wife's father bought the rifles back in the late 1940s, or perhaps the early, very early 1950s. Now this fellow wants to start doing some hunting. I was reading somewhere that the .250/3000 round started with one twist, but rifle manufacturers later switched the barrel twist so heavier bullets could be stabilized. I think these rifles would have been bought in a range from 1948-1955. From this extremely limited amount of info, can anyone give me a clue as to what twist the barrels might have. Either way, I think that two or three grains of powder below book max should be in order for either of these rifles, but I am stumped on the bullet twist. If the rifle shoots them okay, we'll probably use Nosler Partitions. Anyway, that will be down the road a bit. Thanks for any help folks ... Tom Purdom
