Notice how you didn’t see a man in public without a suit coat on……was in a Walmart the other day and it seemed like half the people there were wearing their fuzzy slippers….

Look back at pictures of major league baseball fans in the 40s and early 50s - men sitting there sweating their asses off in suits. You later got some rebels who ditched the suit coats but still had the required white shirts.

I love these old days vids. Just like we used to do they get dressed up if going out into the public. Blows my mind that the Queen we know wasn't even born yet. There is another old vid of the 50's show "I've got a Secret" where there is an old guy that was actually present in Fords Theatre and witnessed the Lincoln assassination. Wowzer, from that to being on TV. That's crazy but true.

Those kinds of thoughts often amaze. My grandfather, born in the late 1880s, remembered speaking to many men in his youth who had fought in the Civil War. Some of them had only made their way back home to Dixie during his childhood.

Food didn't have the same function as it does for us today. It was a means to survival, and if it tasted good, that was great. No fresh vegetables after December, unless you had some cabbage or carrots in the root cellar. You ate because you had to. And you had to cook it all yourself, from scratch, without a microwave. Canned beef, yum!

I have one of my mother's old cook books. It has an entire chapter on what the least expensive ways to meet the caloric requirements for the family were. Lots of calorie comparisons, and cost comparisons for meeting your caloric minimums. Sugar and fat were both quite expensive. Lean cuts were cheaper in many cases than fattier cuts. True "home ec".

I wonder how many of those young boys shown died at the Marne or Flanders or ?..

It does illustrate a simpler and seemingly more elegant time but the reality is that life was much more difficult. The homogenization and pride is refreshing though.

That's been photo shopped by white supremist. NetFlicks shows the queen was black as well as all the aristocracy. I seen it on TV so it can't be fake.

Thanks - a very enjoyable slice of humble reality for comparison to what one experiences today? Yes, where were the fat folks in that array? No locks or guardians - so how may horses/carriages were stolen that day? Where were the yoga pants - women in insufferable modest skirts seemingly having a good day.

I like the Elgar in E minor.

I'm not so sure about that. There's at least one dude in a frock:
