Hello all!
I know this is not an original idea but has anyone tried a 30-06 magazine in a 308 Winchester rifle in order to increase the OAL and load to the lands? If so, how did it go?
Thanks,
Rick

I have switched to the M+ magazines in my short action calibers and it hasn’t caused any issues. I haven’t tried the 30-06 length magazines. That would need a bolt stop swap.

Hello Gooch!
Please explain the M+ magazines. I guess I need a Tikka education.
Thanks,

M+ is a medium magazine with a little bit longer OAL, it is the one shipped with the 6.5 Creed

You can do a bolt stop swap or you can take a couple minutes and modify your own.

It takes longer to pull the barreled action out of the stock, and put it back in and torque it, than it does to modify the bolt stop.

I use a long action mag in my 6.5CM

The M+ magazine is what you need. A bolt stop from a 6.5 creedmoor will also make things better. Sometimes there is not enough meat to modify the factory bolt stop. They are cheap, so if you need a longer OAL than the 308 bolt stop allows for, just buy one from a 6.5 creedmoor. Also, if guys have to run a 30-06 magazine in their creedmoors, there is something really wrong with said rifle. The M+ allows for a long enough OAL for any 6.5 creedmoor I've ever seen. If the throat is that worn, it probably needs a new barrel.

I did it and saw zero accuracy benefits. Would not do it again.

I didn't know there was a "medium" magazine available. How much longer OAL can I use?
Thanks all, and have a great holiday!

While it didnt work for him, It did in my 308. I'm running a "L" mag in my 308 with a mountain tactical long action bolt stop. It allowed me to load 155 lapua scenars closer to the lands which were longer than my original mag length. My accuracy increased as a result, plus I was able to run them a little hotter due to slightly more case capacity. While it may not work for some, it does for others depending on the situation.

I installed LA bolt stops in my 7mm-08s when I started loading 150 gr Eldx. I use 30-06 mags. Works great.

I went to +M mags in my 7-08 T3X and did not need to change to a LA bolt stop. The +M mags allow me to seat to the lands on my 7-08 with no issues. I did switch out to a LA bolt stop and an Mountain Tactical mag in my .300 WSM T3 to seat my bullets out further.

I run 30-06 mags in my 308.
Pulled the bolt stop and took a file to it.
Running 150 Accubonds at an OAL of 2.985
Velocity is 2950 and accurate as hell

I modified my own mags and bolt stop years ago on my .260 Tikka to lengthen the OAL to run 140 gr Berger VLDs.
The mags seem to allow more length than the M+ just comparing images, I have not physically compared them however.
It changed my rifle's accuracy from ho hum to what I figured a Tikka was supposed to shoot like.
The LA mags did not feed correctly for me.

I like mine! Wish I’d bought it a year earlier.
