I am looking for some 357 Maximum ammo for a TC Contender Carbine to use for deer hunting. I want to reload but with all that is going on right now I don't have the time.

Has anyone bought ammo from Reed's Ammunition & Research, LLC?

Recommendations of where to buy 357 Maximum ammo?

You should really load your own for this cartridge, but if I was to buy ammo for deer the 180 grain XTP from Reeds is a good pick. Starline has brass right now maybe you should invest in some with reloading in mind for the future.

Steinel Ammunition produced .357 Max ammo but it has been out of stock recently. I bought a couple boxes and only shot less than one box before returning the barrel to the manufacturer. Please let me know if you’re interested in the remaining 25+/- rounds.

By all means 180gr XTPs. And when you start loading put Lil Gun powder behind them. It works.

I've bought probably 500 hundred .357 Maximum, 158 grain, JHP rounds from Green Country Ammo.

However, just checking their site they're currently out of stock.

I've heard of Reeds and tried buying from there before but they were always out of stock. Just checked again, and they have 158gr and 180gr Hornady XTPs in stock.

So, just for the hell of it, I ordered 100, 180 grain XTPs. Kind of a wonky online ordering system, but we'll see.

I've also tried the Grizzly 200gr WLNGCs, but neither of my Ruger .357 Maximums like it. The 158 grain JHPs from Green Country are money. 🎯

This is one of my two 357 Super Mag (Max) Martini Cadet carbines I built. It has a 14" twist barrel, same as a Contender, aprox same pressure rating, depending on when the story was written and by whom it was written. I use the 200 RN and 200 grain RCBS cast FN bullet and 180 grain Sierra bullet in it with H-110/296 with Small Rifle primers.
The cartridge was designed by, developed by Elgin Gates for the use of heavy bullets, all of my SM 16 Revolvers and 4 SM single shots used heavy bullets well enought to win many matches and I used H-110 because it was cheaper than 296, but the same powder, also 4227 was a very good powder. Been shooting the Super Mag for more than a few decades. Steve Vogel, Ex VP Ruger sent me two, first month production guns a 10" and an 8".
