I have a moss 44us. It was my first rifle (given to me by my father) and to this day is my favorite rifle. I am considering taking off the peep sights and mounting a scope, having it reblued/parkerized, and perhaps refinishing the wood.
Considering how much time/money I'm about to invest, I could just go buy a new .22 and keep this old gun in it's orignal condition. What say you?

You will miss the peep sight. I keep one rifle with a peep sight and the other with a scope just for that reason.
Anyways... Variety (of rifles) is the spice of life... And don't ask a gun forum for any restraint on purchasing another rifle. We are enablers....

Other than that, How was the show Mrs. Lincoln?

I refinished the wood on five of these M44 US. I also replaced the trigger guards with anodized aluminum types.
On two, I got some Havlin scope mounts and had a gunsmith drill and tap some holes and mount Leupold 4-9X33 scopes on them.
Either ones are fun to shoot. I'm keeping the two with the iron sights for my kids/grandkids.
The scope mounted ones are for my wife and I as our eyes get older.
I also put leather slings on the two and they look gorgeous and are extremely accurate and fun to shoot!

Where can you find a magazine for one of these? I have a CMP rifle that needs one.
