I am looking at a nice Winchester 1892 chambered in 38 wcf. I only have pictures and have not seen in person and would like to ask the forum opinion of reblue or not.
A M-1 carbine that I have is going to be traded for it. Value of the trade right at 1600

Would agree it's been reblued. Not a bad job for the most part, but the pits on the bolt is a giveaway

The wood is pretty suspect too

So I just clicked on and was reviewing the comments backwards naturally as they appeared and when I saw the last picture first and the progressed towards the beginning and your introduction thread as the Original poster my first thoughts were "boy that rifle looks like it was possibly re blued and then over polished"! Seriously.
The biggest give away was the top of the Bolt on top of the Chamber. The Corrosion due to Black powder or even poor storage, or rough maintenance or a lack their of.(tmitch stated also)
Like Levers said the wood it's suspect too! Definitely a Rifle that was doctored up for $$$!
Personally it will always be what it is. A fussed with Gun!
I'd walk away if it was me, but I am a little particular!
It's not worth $1600.00 to me trade or not!
