This is a deal, I have the same rifle but in 416, and if I didn’t I would be all over this. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/988845751If anybody out there has any new 270 WSM brass collecting dust I would greatly appreciate a PM with a price, I’ve been on the hunt for days and not having much luck, thanks!

You want new 270WSM brass? Beggars can't be choosers. You'll be lucky to find once fired.. Just sayin.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

They described it as a REM 700 CRF. Ah, what?

Found these posts in the archives here:
"The conversion by Brown Precision was not a CRF. Rather it was akin to the original Ruger M77 extractor."
"Butch Searcy converted a few 700’s to a CRF system similar to the pre64 M70. These were done in the 70’s maybe early 80’s. He stopped when he began building double rifles."
"Chet Brown's shop use to do that conversion back in the early '80s(?). Quit after he had some come apart when fired."

I think this would be important information for the seller to provide.

Why list it as a BDL/CDL in subtitle?
The stock looks a bit dated, but still interested. Another stock in the wings.

Legal for deer in Iowa. Mr. Weaner needs all the help he can get to kill anything. You might want to skip right to a 375 cheytac...

Ouch……that cuts right to the core, Jack Handle. We occasionally have a January doe season here in Iowa. Most rifles legal then. Smallest we’ve ever used was .277 projectile. Normal gun seasons….anything .35-.50, currently. Compared to the recoil of a 12 gauge slug, walk in the park. Why list it as a BDL/CDL in subtitle?

We can’t all be as well-traveled as you, JH. Smallest we’ve ever used was .277 projectile. I don't doubt that...like I said, some folks need all the help they can get..

It looks like an early Brown stock. Probably 1980s as the other posts suggest. The barrel "band" was just a cheap clamp on type.
Will be interesting to see what it goes for but it looks like a big risk in many ways. If there was a problem with that conversion, Brown should have recalled all that were sold.

Around the late 70’s or early 80’s Chet Brown did modify a few 700’s to use a M77 type extractor. It was not a CRF conversion. He liked African hunting had a 458 Lott that had the modification. There were a few problems but they were unrelated to the extraction system. Remember the brass had to be formed and 375 cases were usually the starting point. There were problems with the 458 Swift bullets grabbing the case and tearing off a chunk of the front of the case which was causing pressure excursions. Could have been the very soft copper tubing from which those bullets were made.
Anyhow Chet decided the extractor of the original 700 couldn’t be improved upon. Chet was a very responsible guy. If he felt it was not safe he would have handled everything. Prince of a guy.
There you go.

Went $920 just for the barreled action, didn’t lead long.
