You had me going with the velocity - 28" is uncommon for a Whelen. Nosler data uses a 26" test barrel.
I can get the 200 TTSX to 2,850 in a 22" barrel, so adding 150 fps (6" x 25 fps/in) would get me to 3,000 fps.
My 35 Whelen is an 1885 Highwall, that started life as a 30-06. I sent to JESS Rebore and had it rebored to a 10 twist 5 groove. I really like this rifle
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first
I just sent my 35 Whelen to be cut back to 20.5” and threaded for a suppressor. But 2,800+ with a 200 TTSX should blow the snot out of those bunny rabbits. My Whelen had a 26” barrel, I thought that was uncommon.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally
beretzs what stock is that? My favorite rifle is a tanger 35 Whelen. I have been shooting 225tsx and don't have any complaints other than you have to drill the tips out a little to get reliable expansion. I have only killed one bear with the 200 TTSX so far and it worked great. I'll be trying 8208XBR in it now! My rifle is not quite as nice looking as yours.
@ beretzs - Your target says COAL 3.275”. Your log book shows lands are at 3.525”. My calculator says you’re shooting the TTSXs a full quarter inch off the lands. The numbers in the log book itself show 185 thou off the lands. Now I know Barnes says to back them off some, but really…that far? Wow…no wonder I couldn’t get them to group in my .358 Win at a paltry 50 thou off the lands!

It’s a Banser pattern I believe. I got it from Kevin Weaver a few years back after he bought a bunch of HiTec blanks and was selling them fairly inexpensive.

Yeah, bullet touched at 3.525, I started work at 3.34 (mag length) and worked back from there. Sometimes seating depth is more important than the powder charge with the pickier bullets.
I might have to try those in my 350 rem mag. Currently I'm shooting 225 sierras at an estimated 2700 fps. Blam flopped the one moose I've shot with a high lung shot. Don't really need the flatter trajectory, but there are some critters that I'd prefer an expanding monometal over a cup core bullet.
My go-to load when I'm in need of venison and the 700 classic gets the nod. The 35 cal Barnes TTSX is my favorite hunting bullet for the 35 Whelen. I can second the awesome combination of this bullet with IMR-8208 XBR. Sure wish they'd hurry up and restock this stuff.
