I have been trying to get quotes for replacement cost of my 22 year old HVAC system. The system consists of 100,000 btu propane fired forced air Lennox furnace, and a 3 ton ac condenser and cased coil in the furnace ductwork. The furnace is on its last legs, and since I’m replacing it, I thought now would be the time to replace the ac also, even though it is functioning fine. I have been having a hell of a time just getting anyone to take a look and give me a quote. The one guy that did give a quote was very high in my opinion. He was $2500 for the installation costs, and I feel that he marked the prices of the parts and units way up. He was over $1000 for a 3 ton cased coil. Over $3000 for a 100000 btu single stage York or Thermopride furnace. I’ve been out of the field for a few years, but those seem like very inflated prices. Anyone here had a HVAC system installed lately, or better yet, I would appreciate hearing from anyone working in that field.

Smaller than your units. New construction so I will have duct work, 2 bathroom vents and 1 stove vent. KCMO metro area.

I have 2 other quotes that are just shy of $15k.
1 year ago those numbers were about $3k less. One of these guys said his equipment costs has gone up 23% in the last year.
My dad had a system replaced 1 year ago as his system was roughly 30 years old. Similar size to yours, about $11k IIRC.

Heat pumps are expensive too. We just had a complete unit installed for about 10K.

For a complete house 15K seems to be ok. Had a Trane unit to replace the old unit 5 years ago and it was 8k for the outside and inside unit. We have a gas furnace Without ductwork replaced I would think 8-10K

$6k and change for our current system to be replaced 2 years ago.
Gas furnace and AC condensing unit.
Nowadays $8k easily.

Wow.
We don't have central HVAC. Heat with wood. Baseboard electric when it's just chilly. Have been considering a central heat pump install. It would beat the window a/c, cheaper than baseboard to operate, and as mild as winters are anymore it would do most of our heating easily.
Covering the cost would be easy. But me giving up the amounts you guys are posting would be rough.

Time to check into a mini split system.

A heat pump/mini split system isn’t going to cut it in northern New York. Most years we have a cold snap or two with lows down to -40f. It’s very common to have sub 0 temps at night for weeks on end.

Quote a Trane system and you'll feel better about your York quote.

I need to replace my system, too. Being a plumber who does some HVAC, I can do it myself, except that I don't have the tools to braze and charge the A/C. Anyway, I checked into a new furnace last summer. A 60K BTU, 2 stage furnace was going to run me over $1,700 at our company cost! Wasn't long ago that that furnace was $800 or so.
Add on the lineset, condenser and cased coil, and costs started getting real.

HVAC has gone crazy expensive. My comments are not so much about money but some technical issues.
My house is large and I have seperate Furnace and AC for each floor. Three years ago I had to replace the main floor with 100 k btu furnace/ 3 ton ac and redo a bit of duct to add cold air return on the lower floor about $8k.
The lower floor cold air return alows me to suck some cold air from the basement in summer thus making the house more even and reducing cooling load. It also helps in winter when it is real cold. I can manually control all the registers and one of the cold air returns on each floor which is nice. So far this year I have not run AC. I run fan and pull cool air from the basement upstairs.
Make them show you the filters. My new filters are good. The last one sucked- still have one on the lower floor unit.
My new lennox thermastadt is a propreitary tablet that is internet enabled. It is warranted but costs $1300 for a mfing thermastadt! The ac will not run without it but the heater will run with an off the shelf dumb thermastadt in a pinch if it fails per my tech guy.
It failed once during a power outage and my tech had to come out to reset it.. I was pissed Devalue added engineering [bleep] complexity where none is needed. Controling my HVAC from my phone is nice but low priority. Who needs more of this crap..

Yes they have $1,000 for the propane hot water heater. That's for a gravity/atmospheric vent, right? Our cost for a 50 gal power vent WH is probably between 1,200 and 1,300 now. Possibly a bit more.
