So I might know a guy who girlfriend got pregnant and had a kid. The guys dad insisted on a paternity test and not a surprise to the dad, the guy turned out not to be the father.
The guy had his name on the birth certificate as the father and to my knowledge the guy called the state to have his name taken of the birth certificate and was assurred it would be.
Fast forward to now ( I think the child is 4 or 5) and the state sent the guy paperwork stating that child support is forthcoming since he is listed as the father on the birth certificate.
What can be done about this? There was a number to call on the paperwork but to no surprise the number is useless for actually speaking to anyone.

Paternity test should clear it right up for a judge. Do they know who the real daddy is?

If it is in Montana he never followed up and had his name removed from that birth certificate.
His CPS case will have someone assigned to it. He needs to call and leave the required information. The voicemail will be very specific.
They will call him back and will be surprisingly helpful and objective.
I have kids all over the country and Montana is one of the best states to deal with.

The guy is a challenge to deal with. I will let him know this when the time comes, which it will. In my experience everything Montana state (CPS, marriage licensing, birth certificates, etc.) is pretty well interwoven. If there was some sort of clerical error or lack of finalization with the birth certificate they may be able to help. Or, he is completely FOS and doesn’t want to admit he impregnated a tramp. Who knows.
