The wife and I took a week long vacation and drove down the Oregon and northern California coast. I've been both places multiple times for various military duties. This is the first time I've traveled there extensively and really took it in. I must say that you people live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I love my Montana and will never leave it. However, if I did, notwithstanding the political climate, western Oregon or northern California would be at the top of my short list. Simply wow. If you've never traveled/vacationed this area and are thinking about it, do so. Make sure to take in the giant redwoods. Holy cow. What a great experience and beautiful vacation. I wish I had more pictures; but, here are just a few from my phone. Once again, you who live there live in a beautiful place.

Given your interest in plants, there's a very small point of interest you might enjoy on the mid Oregon coast called Darlingtonia Wayside. Not something you see every day..
Glad you enjoyed your trip!

I lived in Klamath Falls for a few months way back when (1978-ish). Thought I had died and gone to heaven.
You couldn't buy a job at the time there.

Yes, it is beautiful here.

As long as you are 5 miles away from I-5 it is conservative, also.

Right now, a minority of progressives rule the majority. We have all sorts of "feel good" laws. The result is that Oregon is Number 1 in Sex trafficking and Mental Illness.

It is beautiful. We travel the Oregon coast pretty much every year. During peak season, summer, it can get pretty busy and crowded. Otherwise, ya, it's great!

Used to live in Gresham in the early 80s and traveled the coast and mountains often. Stunning outdoor beauty.
Unfortunately, I’m glad I don’t live there any more.

Awesome pics, Mad_Max. Really too bad that both places are now controlled by the progressive elitist panty-waist LGBTQ+ communists.

Washington, Oregon and Northern California are exceptionally beautiful! Growing up here was incredible with endless outdoor activities. From coastal beaches to inland beaches….rainforest to Rocky Mountain Montane forests….mountains from 14,000, uplands and lowlands….perpetually wet rainforest to dry sage land deserts. We have it all including a mild, temperate climate. Mule deer, whitetail deer, Columbian Blacktails, 2 types of Bighorn, Mtn. Goats, moose, Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain elk, black bear, cougars, grizzly, wolves and even caribou and antelope. The last 4 are protected.

Unfortunately along with the incredible beauty and outdoor opportunities we have here we’ve had a invasion of liberals that are single-handedly destroying everything good about this state. I don’t want to simply look at the beauty of the wild places I want to be able to immerse myself in it like I’ve done most of my life. Unfortunately it’s become more and more difficult to “play outside” and follow the rules. The rules are constantly changing and in season shutdowns for covid was the nail in the coffin. During covid I still played outside. Considering the hundreds I’d spent on my license I wasn’t going to listen to the illegal orders from a tyrant so my time spent doing what I’ve always done and for the first time, done in contravention to the dictator’s orders. As a free man I’ll not be subjected to tyranny so I make my decision and move forward. I don’t like being an outlaw so I’m moving…

Fu.ck Washington’s politics, politicians and bullshit leftist crap….as long as I’m here I’ll do what I want within the historical boundaries of 45+ years of outdoor enjoyment…..fu.ck their illegal laws!

For those with a tiny spark of adventurism..inland a ways there are some awesome sights well off the tourist path but paved. Grayback Mountain Rd between Obrien OR and Happy Camp Calif...as Seafire mentioned Bear Camp Pass from Merlin OR to Gold Beach OR...Salmon River Road from Etna or Callahan Calif to Somes Bar Calif....Forest Rd 17 from Edgewood (Weed) Calif to Coffee Cr Calif....State Hwy 36 all the way from Fortuna to Redding (some burnt landscape, but still worth it)....State Hwy 3 from Yreka to Weaverville....and so on. Tip, leave gps at home, phone will also be useless, and don't pass up a chance to top off with fuel.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

From coastal forest to alkali deserts, diverse to the extreme. Unfortunately, we have Eugene, Salem, and Portland with enough votes to rule the roost.

I often think about life in California at the turn of the 19th century. It was like the Garden of Eden with a perfect climate, abundant game in the endless mountains, forests, fields, rivers, lakes, bays and oceans. Giant Chinook and a year ‘round growing season.

The natives were fairly docile too since being fat and happy tends to create complacency (ask modern America 😉). Never mind the gold and silver deposits….

Washington, Oregon and California are beautiful……if we could set politics aside (we can’t) they’d be perfect. Photos from Washington……

I've never been to Oregon or Wa, but I've often said California is the most beautiful state in the lower 48. I've seen parts of 43 states and that's my opinion. I hate the political climate there and I probably wouldn't like a lot of the people, but wow do they have some scenery.
