Mounted this scope today. I can slide 4 sheets of paper under it but that’s it. It’s a muzzleloader if that makes any difference.

Looks perfect to me!

Depends on how it shoots. Have seen some rifles that obviously were affected by the scope's objective bell mounted that closely to the barrel--while some others were not.

go to the auto parts store and get some plastigauge. put it between the bell and barrel. if it flattens out when you shoot, there is a problem. if it doesn't flatten out no problem.

No. Go to Midway.com and get some higher rings. That’s too close for comfort.

I have had 2 sheets of paper between bell and barrel with no issue. PITA to mount scope covers on though.

I have to agree except I have never seen plastigauge in an auto parts store, I get it from a place that does auto machine motor rebuilding

I had a close mount a couple months ago in this thread...

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...cs/18324288/scope-clearance#Post18324288

Three sheets of notebook paper but not four. 0.006".

Said F-it before trying it and got taller mounts.

Too close, your barrel may warp

Have been in the two or three dollar bills close previously. Without any issue that I was aware of. I did have put a relief notch in the bottom of the slip on scope cover to get it in place...

I’m thinking scope flex might be more likely to cause contact than barrel whip, depending on ring placement, etc. Looks like maybe a 50mm objective?

The suggestion to use plastigauge seems like a good one. Carbon paper might work too, sandwiched between copy paper.

Seems like a mixed bag here. I’ve personally been there with my Rem 700ML running a 50mm Grandslam and zero issue. Ymmv

That's too close for me. I would do something to get more clearance.

If your eye alignment is perfect where its at... shoot it and see. For a great cheek weld and ease of natural sighting I would definitly Try to keep it right tharr' YMMV

It’s a 50mm scope so the alignment is fine.

I will shoot it this weekend. Just got the bullets I ordered from Bear Creek Ballistics.
