My youngest daughter's 'squad' has about ten kids in it. All of them better kids than I ever was and on their way to great things. This one is on his way to the United States Naval Academy in a couple of weeks and asked if I'd take him fishing. I'm easily talked into such things. We shot for last Saturday but when the forecast went bad, we reengineered our plans for this morning. I went pre fishing yesterday with a friend and we really spanked them. I hoped all night long that they'd be in the same place today. We didn't have alot of calendar days left for a do over. Fortunately the fish were cooperative. "The Commodore" as I now call him, caught his limit including a personal best 23". Our eight fish filled three bags and he took them home to his family for supper tonight. My own 23" was not a PB but still a darn good fish for Lake Oahe of late. Notice that I am experienced at holding up a fish for the camera. The Commodore needs more experience. He had a great time and promised me he'd be back at Christmas to go pheasant hunting. People that think "kids nowadays" are all something that isn't good don't know very many kids.

LOL "squad" is my daughter's own group of friends. Sorry I wasn't clear on that.

Well I declared it to be all plastics 2023 for me. No live bait. Which hasn't been as easy as some might think. I've had to change my tactics and still have to change them going forward to make it work.
In this case, water temp was around 60 in the main lake, 65 in the bays, so we were inside the mouth of a bay fishing secondary points. This point had a shelf that was generally about 7' deep and a drop off down into about 17' of water. We were casting moon eye jigs with 5" swim baits up onto the shelf. In rod holders on the other side of the boat, we had dead sticks rigged with bottom bouncers and gulp crawlers on a slow death hook behind a bead. I didn't notice that we caught more fish on either setup. The two "overs" as we call fish over 20" were both taken on the shelf with the jigs. We kept eight fish off that one spot and called it a day, he had an appointment to keep that afternoon.
The Commodore has been dropped off at Annapolis by the way. We've heard from his mother, and are all awaiting a personal report from him.
