Our uniform at the fire department was made of Nomex and there are a lot of places to find it. Uniform shops that serve police and fire should carry it but with the internet you have virtually unlimited choices.

Good luck and I wish him a SAFE but exciting summer. 😉

There are usually Carhartt FR work pants for sale on Ebay.

Define fire resistant.

I used Duluth cotton clothing when I was a welder.

I used to get all my uniforms, bunker gear, boots and equipment from Blumenthals in Seattle but it looks they’ve been bought by Galls. The Nomex uniform pants and shirts were great. They were not only fire resistant but they were light and fairly cool too. The good stuff isn’t cheap but it fits properly and looks sharp when compared to some of the cheaper ones that fit like a soup sandwich.

Carhartt & Wrangler, plus lesser known brands offer flame resistant clothing of all sorts.

My bud thats a lineman gets Carhartt issued to him.

Welders supply stores offer non leather jackets, chaps, etc.

Hated wearing FRs, I'd buy them at Cavinders Boots or Acadmey.

https://tyndaleusa.com/ I work in the utility industry and have been wearing these for the last 20 years. They also sell Carhart, Bullwark and Ariat FR clothing. They sometimes have seconds.

Ya’ll got one of those shady looking guys that sits on the side of the highway in an old econoline van selling retired cintas / aramark uniforms ?

Like $8 or 2 for $10?

I'll give you a shirt sometime Ben... they are dandy for welding... seriously. Not rated, but still very good stuff.

FR cotton Kahki pants and shirts are what I wear. I order Lapco from one of the online dealers that has my size. Amazon has FR clothing. Our company requires it.

I believe it Leonard. FF is firefighter? I thought you did forest firefighting for some reason.

One time, I was torch cutting the dogs off of a rail car from a turbine that was just getting unloaded, and they gave me a newbie millwright who had never been around welders before. Turns out he was terrified of fire.

So I'm spraying lava everywhere because all I have to cut this 3" thick steel with is a torch with a #2 on it, and I catch myself on fire. IDGAF, it's a normal day and I just keep on because my kerf looks awesome and I'm making progress.

This damn millwright wigs the fuçk out and absolutely hoses me down with a 1211 class C extinguisher, which isn't even the right one to use, that bastard.

The EMT folks were confused as fuçk as to why I couldn't breathe and I was intubated for a few hours while they "conducted an investigation" hahahahahaha.

All because the millwright was scared of fire and didn't check out the correct equipment.

Lost most of my beard on that lovely event.

It needs to have the “FR” tag.

Some dudes collect old stuff and take the patch off. Then they have it re-sown. FR is a joke, it’s good for a few washes.

Make sure he knows what he needs beforehand. Most places require Cat 2 nowadays but some still use the thin stuff. Welders and electrical requirements were different where I worked.
