Any experiences with the Nosler .284 160 grain Ballistic tip?
I must have been so wrapped up in using the 160 grain Partition I never realized they make a 160 grain Ballistic Tip.
Just wondering if the jackets in the 160 grain grow thicker like some (all?) of the other heavy for caliber?

The 7mm Ballistic Tip that's a reputation for being pretty tough for a while now is the 150-grain, which does have a thicker than average jacket. The 160 may now also have one, but I've never sectioned one to see.
Nosler tends to keep tweaking their bullets (as do many other bullet companies) but not making major announcements when they do. A good example is when they moved the Partitions forward in the larger-caliber, heavier models in the 1990s--to keep up with the trend of higher weight retention, especially when hunting larger game. They never made any announcement about this that I saw, so instead found out by finally recovering a couple 300-grain .375s from a dead buffalo--which averaged 89% weight retention.

If anyone is interested, just received this message from Nosler regarding their 160 gr .284 Ballistic Tip construction being as "tough" as their 150 gr. Ballistic Tip.
" It is the very same design and specs but just a bit longer in the body to give it 10gr more weight."

Thats interesting. I shot a WT doe with their 150 BT at under 100 yards. I had two exit holes, must hit a rib and come apart.

This is interesting. The most unbelievable wound I've ever seen was from a 7mm Rem.Mag. factory load with a 150gr. Ballistic Tip. It was from a buck my neighbor shot about 20 years ago. He shot it right behind the shoulder. There was a hole almost as big as your head. And that was the entrance wound. No exit. I almost couldn't believe it.

" It is the very same design and specs but just a bit longer in the body to give it 10gr more weight." It will be pretty convenient if the 160 BT and 160 A/bond have the same POI.

Interesting! I have shot a 150 grain Ballistic Tip for years in my Jarrett 280AI. It gives teeny tiny groups that would make anyone happy. But….just this year I noticed that I’ve had to track every one of my deer shot with that rifle since I switched to that bullet eight years ago. The light switched on this fall when I dead centered a huge bodied buck and he ran forever. I figured out I was definitely seeing a trend. Bullet placement is always dead on (heart/lungs) but I’ve been experiencing 150+ yard tracking jobs. All the tracking jobs show little blood…I’m just following “drops”, not “puddles”. My records show I haven’t had a DRT shot with this combo excepting one doe.
This fall I figured that this must be one of Nosler’s BT’s that they toughened up whenever they tinkered with the design, as they have done on various BT’s from time to time. I had considered posting a query about this very subject.
Side note: our white tails here are pure Wisconsin stock from when the state restocked 50 or so years ago. They get huge with those genetics and our heavy ag smorgasbord they feed on.
