My wife couldn’t take estrogen as well because of breast cancer in her family. She did take some soy supplements and that helped stabilize things. The tough part for us mates is that you don’t know which wife is gonna be in the next room when you walk in. 😊
I got a taste of mood swings and hot flashes when the radiation oncologist prescribed a couple of testosterone killers to supplement my radiation treatments for prostate cancer. I don’t think there was a single trip through traffic to the radiation treatments that my wife didn’t say, “just take it easy, we’ve got plenty of time.”
Hot flashes? …..holy crap! I’d be reading or watching the tube and woosh, I’m soaked with sweat. 😳 No fun at all.
You just have to accept the fact that you will have a really hard time saying or doing the right thing in any situation. 😁

One word of advice: Mirena....https://www.mirena-us.com/
This is an IUD prescribed as birth control. But it has a myriad of other benefits. The implant slowly releases a progestin hormone which greatly reduces monthly flow and often eliminates the period altogether. It may be prescribed to pre-menopausal women. Insurance is glad to pick up the tab as it is cheaper than paying for pregnancies or tubal ligation. It did not matter that I was already sterile.

Levonorgestrel is in a class of medications called progestins. It works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary or preventing fertilization of the egg by sperm (male reproductive cells). It also may work by changing the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent development of a pregnancy.
As my wife entered that pre-menopausal time of her life, she suffered severe hormone related mood swings and anxiety. Her gynecologist recommended the Mirena. It was a life saver, for both of us.
The implant has a life of five years and is then removed. By that time, my wife was post-menopausal and saw no effect from removing the device.
It is definitely worth talking to her Dr. about.
Good luck. Hormones can screw up the brain chemistry of the most wonderful of people.

Wife went through it pretty early here and was at least 1/2 way through before she knew. Waaaayy behind us now except occasional hot flashes, the crazy was there prior and of course remains in place as we near 60.
As has been stated “for better, for worse, in sickness and in health.” If it were always going to be good times no vows would be necessary.
I ain’t gonna b$tch about my Ex, mostly I’m grateful for all the good times and the 20 years she hung in there.
Swift and profound personality changes tho when menopause hit, affecting everyone around her. She did me a favor when she left.
