I doubt that the USCG would announce the discovery of a debris field and schedule a news conference about it, unless they believed that it was connected with the Titan. But, who knows?
The Coast Guard is not going to make fools of themselves by showing pics of Titanic debris at a news conference. White carbon fiber looks much different from the rusty old steel of Titanic.
From what I read carbon fiber initially shatters like glass or ceramic. It may or may not have been completely catastrophic and instantaneous. But once pressure is equalized the destructive reactions of the implosion stop.
Here’s a cool animation that has nothing to do with the design and structure of the vessel in question. I just thought it was kool.
I am very sad for the 19 year old lad who was counting on his Dad to make a good decision. I don't buy the adventure part of Dad's trip..basically you are putting your life in the hands of someone else and becoming a heavily fleeced tourist. You sit in an experimental carbon fibre tube and have no decision making say in anything. You die? You are a powerless victim... You live.. you depended on someone else judgement. You are funding another persons dream who is so dependent on your money that they will be tempted to take extreme risks to get it.
Take up canoeing and do some wild rivers. You can be in charge of your own boat and the bonding with your kid can be way more profound. You are also way more likely to come home if you sensibly grow into your limits. No 19 year old lad (or his mom and sister) deserve this kind of a fate.
"...The submersible was engineered specifically with this sort of expedition in mind and with the help of NASA. It's probably one of the most technologically advanced private submersibles in the world...."
Well, we will know more in an hour or so. One thing 15 years as a media spokesman taught me is to never assume anything or leap to conclusions. And especially not to speculate.

Looks like searches found on the ocean floor a rear cover and landing platform. The experts say it’s a solid indicator of an implosion.
Debris on the bottom near the Titanic should come as no surprise. Unless they find something like that forward dome, it won't be conclusive.
Hasn’t the area around the wreck been mapped? I would think it would be pretty easy to tell new from old given the the previous documentation.
That was my thought as well. In a day or so they will confirm it is the vehicle with the loss of all onboard. They should definitely bring it back up if possible. If it imploded would the occupants still be in there?
I don’t know enough about carbon fiber to know exactly how it would behave with implosion. I found one study on the matter which showed that it tends to fracture in a linear manner; but as a composition with the other materials, who knows.
retired USN submariner has a good video out. shows some footage of the water heater being made. thing great big carbon fiber wrapped rifle barrel. with no steel liner. titatium nose rings were "glued" to the CF using some form of epoxy. according to the video the Ceo has been down many times. and losing coms at around that 1:45 mark was common and quite likely that the surface vessel didn't even call for help until 8-10 hours after launch...after they normally re-gained comms
