Friday afternoon a local Baptist church was having a Vacation Bible School program and an off duty cop and his family got out of their car and were walking toward the church. They were accosted by a 15 year old “yute” (not the Indian variety) with a gun that demanded their keys, money and cellphones.
If you’re going to rob someone around here, it’s probably not a good idea to pick a guy with a buzz cut. The off duty cop turned and killed him with his weapon. Don’t know specifics on firearm type, cartridge, or number of shots.

Since he was off duty, does the 3 day off-work apply? At that point, he was "civilian" (more or less) right?

That innocent young man had just left church choir practice. He just needed a ride home. He was good boy! His parents must be very proud of him!

He just had got his life on the right track....He was just trying to get money for medicine so he could try to heal his poor sick mother and then go to college, and this mean old gun nut Christian man killed him for fun.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Should happen more often, maybe they will figure out it isn’t a good idea to go around robbing people!

Since he was off duty, does the 3 day off-work apply? At that point, he was "civilian" (more or less) right? A sworn police officer or deputy sheriff is a law enforcement officer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, whether on duty or off duty. He was "in policy" unless the department has rules contrary to the usual policy of all departments I've heard of. L.W.

I understand the thread title, but it sounds like he picked exactly the right guy to me.

Good thing he wasn’t in NYC or Austin, TX. He’d probably be getting charged with murder.

I feel for the guy who had to shoot the idiot, but I applaud the response.

First Baptist, most likely the cop was a Brother. If momma starts screaming about her baby boy, she needs beat for not raising him right. now she has no chance. F'ing media! googled this and got 7-10 hits. copy and paste for most part.

A sworn police officer or deputy sheriff is a law enforcement officer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, whether on duty or off duty. And, since not in the military, is also a civilian. I know, I know, like generic facial tissue being called "Kleenex", we now refer to non-law enforcement people as "civilians" to distinguish them from law enforcement. It has become acceptable to us now and I'm probably the lone ranger anymore. Maybe it comes from my decades in the military. I guess we have accepted ebonics too. Sorry for the thread drift and I apologize for the rant on an "unimportant" topic.
