I am not much for being at/on the beach. Do not like sitting and roasting in the sun, no matter the location. Early morning walks are a highlight for me. Prefer the transition from high to low tide if I am being picky.
Enjoy the ocean and most everything near and next to beaches though. I could definitely live by one, but not sitting on the beach would not be a priority.
When we go on vacation near oceans we plan only a couple of days on the beach, and usually for 1/2 day only.
One of the most enjoyable trips we ever had was to Maui. House rented right on the ocean with a rocky shoreline and yard from the house to the rocks. Had a covered porch and really enjoyed spending time out there from morning to night.

In the summer? No. I loved it when I was a kid, but then I grew up. I hate the traffic, the heat, the crowds and the idiots. The food is all it's got going for it in season.
Off season? Yes

I'm more of a mountain guy and have always been. However, I really, really enjoy, sitting under the shade on an ocean beach and being waited on. I can take in the scenery, read a book or both, maybe even a nap. In my scenario, I really do relax and enjoy it.

fishin' for surfperch? Greenling? Crab snares, Geno. Fishing for rock crab with these: Coolio, Never tried them. We used to fish some bays in SoCal, rent a little aluminum boat, fish near the bait receivers. Drop a crab ring over while fishing and pull it up every 20-30 minutes, get some nice rock crabs. Especially welcome when the fish weren't biting. Up in Humboldt, we'd target the Dungies, drop a ring, go somewhere and toss some lines, come back, have dinner on the beach.

Grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, the beach was a way a life back in the 60's, listened to WLS radio out of Chicago. Life was good back then , sun, sand and the music.

We live on the beach (...and in the mountains as well).
Both equally good...
It is people that I can't stand. This^^^^ My folks loved the coast. Kept a home in the Beaufort/Atlantic beach area until Mom passed and Dad decided it won't the same after she was gone and his health was failing. It was fun staying there in the summers growing up. My first wife loved it so we spent lots of time hanging out with my parents. I was free labor for Pops but enjoyed the time with them. The beach/coast is not the same since the people that I enjoyed it with are gone. The people moving from the northeast have run the cost of living up considerably, no way I could afford a second home there like my folks did. We were similar, moms parents lived 90 miles from Nags Head, had a trailer on the beach at Kitty Hawk. We lived in the mountains, mom was school teacher so when school let out we spent 4-5 weeks a summer at KH. I learned how to fish in the surf and on the piers. Was 22 and there the day grandad sold the trailer after nanny died. It was rough knowing the near free beach life was over that moment. Still love the beach! I spent 4 to 5 weeks a summer picking rock! BTDT Said I don't love the beach. There are worse things!
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

I can watch hot girls that will never be mine any day, right here on this screen, in the comfort and privacy of my home. What the hell do I need to go to the beach for? To sit around bored schidtless, uncomfortable, embarrassed, hot, and sweating? Yeah, loads of fun.
