I weighed the carcass after field dressing at only 200 lbs, which I don't think is all that big (for this country). I think it was a relatively young deer; only 4-5 years old I figure.
Edit: Oh yeah, I suppose that would mean his live weight would have been about 250 lbs...
You cannot see it on the rack very clearly, but there was lots of small sticker points starting. There is a 1" point on the base of the right main beam, that is just big enough to be a deduction. There are another half a dozen on the beams, that I think would have developed into stickers and maybe drop tines, if the deer had lived a few more years.
He'd have really been something at 7 or 8 years old.

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

What's the rifle, Rem classic in 300 H&H with a Bushnell 4200? Yep, except it's an Elite 3200 3x9-40. Hey I went down to the local big buck contest tonight after work; I was not entered. I don't much believe in hunting contests. I went there to watch an official scorer work. FWIW, had I been entered my buck would have been 2nd place.Anyway check out some of the pics. This is the B&C scorer adding up the numbers on my buck. He came up with a gross score 1" less then I had, but 3" less net. I guess the way I did the deductions is not right. So he had it at 164-3/8" net. It turned heads anyway, when I walked in with it. A lot of guys came over to check it out. This buck was 188-3/8" net, (non-typical I think). I think it was #1. Great buck! I think this was the deer that came in 2nd at 164-1/8". Don't know what this one scored. It lost points for being uneven I think... damn big rack! The star of the show. This is the infamous "Newfie Buck". Two of the lads were hunting in the bush a couple years ago and they saw 2 monster whitetails. The newfie was on his first whitetail hunt. He shot the smaller of the 2 deer, "Since it would be better eatin'..."then he knocked the head off and tossed it in the bush! "Ya' can't eats the antlers, don'tcha know boy!?"Apparently he pretty much said those exact words to his hunting partner. So the story raced around town about the crazy Newfie and the monster deer antlers he had tossed away. I don't know how the guy that has them acquired them, other then the newfie didn't give a [bleep] about them, so there was a race to recover them. Take a look at the mass on these antlers and then consider that it was the smaller buck! This is another of those Alberta forest bucks, that lived in deep bush miles from the farm land, where the big deer live... yeah right!! Then try to imagine tossing that thing out!! The rack went over 200" gross and nets 198" and change. Since it was shot a couple years ago, it was not in the contest. I was damn glad to see it, since I have heard stories about this buck for a the last 2 years.

WOW!I've been in some of those bush units in northern Alberta;there is no one hunting in some of them, or pressure is insignificant. Scary to think what's running around there...
