Cost of factory ammo is getting a little on the outragious side. And going up again another 5-6% as of Janurary 1st. I've got to stop buying factory ammo, and do more reloading.

I stoped by the new Bass Pro Shop yesterday, what a mess I've never seen a place so dis-organized. Thought I could run in real quick and purchase some 44 Special ammo with a $50 gift card I recieved from work, no chance, they didn't have any. Wasted about 4 hours looking for something to get rid of that damned gift card, and wound up getting a couple harnesses for the labs.

At any rate as to the ammo. I wound up buying online from Natchez again, but geeze, counting the $36 in shipping fees the total came to $498 for:

5-boxes Winchester white box Gov 44 Rem Mag 240gr. JSP 50/Bx at $29.99 a box.

5-boxes Winchester whige box Gov 40 S$W 180gr.JHP 50/bx at $18.80 per box.

5-boxes Hornady 480 Ruger 400gr. XTP/HP 20/bx at $$21.40 per box.

5-boxes Hornady 480 Ruger 325gr. XTP/HP 20/bx at $21.40 per box.

But the bad part is it was so late last night when I ordered, that I ordered 40 S&w instead of the 44 S&W/Special I wanted. The last batch I had used was PMC 44 S&W/Special 180gr. JHP which I bought a little over a year ago at $17 something a box of 50. And now I just can't seem to find any jacketed 44 Special anwhere.

Guess now it's time for a new handgun in 40 S&W.

No moss on the 40 S&W. I carried one for nearly 10 years in a Sig Arms P229 DAO. Loved it, and boy, would it shoot!

One reason I load is because of the cost. I shoot a .375 H&H as my primary rifle. Factory loads around here are $55+ for 20. But the main reason I load is because there is more pleasure in shooting an animal with a load you asembled.

Update,

I can't ever win for loosing, just seems to be my luck!

At Bass Pro Shops I could have gotten the 44 mag stuff $5 a box cheaper. Could have gotten the .40 S$W $4 a box cheaper, 480 Rugger ammo would have cost me about $5 a box more.

I hate trying to change an online order, so to make up for the mistake grin, I put a deposit on a new Smith and Wesson MP C in .40 S&W I found on a one week only sale at Turners for $439. Bass Pro Shops wanted $579.

So maybe I didn't do so bad after all!

But I still haven't found any Jacketed 180 gr. 44 special. PMC merged with some Korean company I think, and I guess just aren't making it any more. Everything else seems to be sold only in 20 round boxes at an exuberant price.
