I am not sure where to post this so don't flog me with rolled up newspapers........yet.

I happened on to what appears to be a Savage Model 7 semi auto that is magazine fed. Magazine is missing and it has a Simmons scope mounted on it. From what I can find this would be one of the click clack series of semi auto 22 LR firearms. Most were tube fed but this one takes a magazine. It is actually pretty interesting but the stock and the rifle in general need some TLC. Is this worth my time in picking up to play with and trying to find a magazine for? I am guessing value would be $125 or so.

Comments and criticisms are welcome. Information is particularly welcome.

Sounds like an interesting project for not a lot of money. Do it - you'' like it.

Savage magazines can be a challenge to match as you probably know. I bet the experts here can find the right path for you though.

Thanks for pushing me towards the precipice Mike. I think I am going to do it just for gits and shiggles. I think I found a magazine. A single shot semi auto séems a bit limiting other wise.

These are the magazines - wisnersinc/model/savage-bolt-action-rimfire/ Brownell's used to carry the Wisner's magazine but list them as unavailable now. These magazine have good reviews.

Triple-K has them but theirs's are more expensive, but they do list all of the models they fit, which is a good reference -
triplek/product/savage-stevens-etc-22lr-5-rd/
triplek/product/savage-stevens-etc-22lr-10-rd/

Triple-K's list - Fits models 1,2, 4C, 4CD, 4E, 7, 7A, 7H, 19 (not NRA 19), 23AA (not NRA 23A), 26C, 33, 34, 35, 56, 056, 56C, 056C, 57, 057, 65, 84, 084, 840S, 084S, 84C, 84CNS, 084C, 084CNS, 84CD, 84D, 84E, 85, 085, 85A, 85E, 85K, 85KE, 85H, 416, 420, 850,850H, Anschutz 54 Sporter, 141, 164, 184 & 1418, in addition to many private brands, Sears, Coast to Coast, Wards, etc.

(did they miss any??????????)

ADDED - I am not sure if it's the Wisner 5 shot magazines or someone else's, but some of the 5 shot are shorter than others and the bottom flange will not allow them to be fully inserted in a rifle with a heavy target stock like the later 19 NRA's or the Stevens Model 416.

Here's the thread I posted when I picked one up a few years ago. It includes some helpful info on tear down.

There's some information about using the Photo Gallery here for posting pictures, scroll down - topics/12206922
There is a size limitation of 2MEG for the images, which can be a problem. There are other hosting sites that are maybe easier to use.

The Savage semi-auto action design used in the Models 6 & 7 and Stevens variants was produced for a lot of years and when the patents ran out copied by others.

Here's a link to an Australian copy of the Model 7, a SPORTCO - topics/13401834/another-semi-auto-gill-gun
Almost identical to a Model 7, some thread pitches are different, like on the rear action plug, and the barrel has left hand twist rifling. In an interview with SPORTCO founder Jack Warne, he explains that they bought a used rifling machine without instructions and when they got it working it was doing left hand twist rifling and they saw no reason to change. Jack Warne later moved to the USA to work as an executive with OMARK Ind. and helped designed the Kimber 22's. Some of that is covered here - warnescopemounts/our-history/

Am I not correct that water down a drain in the southern hemisphere spins reverse of that in the northern hemisphere? If correct then maybe left hand twist should be the correct. whistle wink grin

The physical spin orientation relative to the earth doesn't change. The southern hemisphere follks just are looking at the spin from a different perspective. Don't believe me? ... take your right hand and hold it out at waist level. Now begin moving your hand in a horizontal circle clockwise. Now keep moving your hand in that circle and slowly raise your hand above your head while continuing to circle your hand in the same direction. ... Look up at it ... you now see your hand circling counter-clockwise.
