Selling a mint condition Remington 700 stainless steel Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08 caliber. What sets this rifle apart is the stunning AAA-grade walnut thumbhole stock made by master gunsmith Harry Lawson. If you’re not aware of Mr. Lawson, he passed away in the late 90’s, but began producing these unique thumbhole rifle stocks in the mid 1960’s. He used exotic woods and very clever designs to produce arguably the best wood thumbhole stocks ever made. His signature feature was a single or double diamond inlay underneath the fore-end of the stock.
This AAA-grade walnut stock includes cocobolo wood for the fore-end tip and pistol grip cap. The fore-end includes a beautiful maple double-diamond inlay. It has a unique, very clean one-screw trigger guard design. The grip cants inward at the top and outward at the bottom, providing a more natural fit than straight-up grips. And it has a very generous cheek rest and flows right into the tang area in the top of the stock.
The wood grain is sensational! This stock has both tiger stripe and fiddleback grains on both sides from end to end of the rifle. Most custom AAA stocks have beautiful grain, but it’s found mostly in the butt end of the stock. This rifle includes beautiful grain for the full length of the rifle! The only blemishes in the stock are two tiny nicks in the edge of the pistol grip cap. And the photos can’t possible do justice to this stock. It has to be viewed in 3D to truly appreciate its beauty as the angle of the light brings out the amazing grain.
Also included in this sale is a custom-painted Remington synthetic stock. John_Boy painted this stock for me in Woodland camo. Thanks, John! The extra stock also includes a trigger guard and action screws.
Back to the Mountain Rifle barreled action…..the metal receiver, barrel and trigger guard are in near-new condition. The cosmetics would indicate the rifle has been fired very little. The bolt jeweling has no scratches, and the feed ramp into the chamber has no marks on it. There is barely evidence that scope mounts have been attached to the top of the receiver. Here are some specs for the rifle in the Lawson stock:
Total weight: 6 pounds, 2.6 ounces LOP: 13-1/4” Barrel length: 22” (factory mountain rifle contour and twist) Total length: 41-1/4”
$1,600 shipped for everything. The rifle is currently listed on Gunbroker obviously at a higher starting price plus shipping $$. The rifle will remain available here on the Fire until someone places a bid on GB. PM me with your questions or if you need additional photos. I have about 60 photos of everything mentioned here. It’s a beautiful rifle, one that you can’t truly appreciate until it’s in your hands. Thanks for looking!

I have a Lawson-stocked Mod. 700, also. Mine, however, is Lawson's "Classic Style", w/o the thumbhole. Irrespective, Lawson's work is second to none. GLWYS.
I'm going out on a limb here with another suggestion/option. The Lawson stock is inletted and bedded for any short action Rem 700 Gen 1 Titanium or Mountain Rifle. I also own a mint condition stainless Mountain Rifle in .260 Remington. If you'd prefer to have the .260 Rem instead of the 7mm-08, I can drop it in the Lawson stock for you and keep the 7mm-08 barreled action. Pics of the .260 are attached. It has no barrel date code, meaning it was built in 2000-2001. It does NOT have a J-lock, and all the metal surfaces are immaculate.
