We'll be out of nickel and other rare earth metals required inside of 10 years, or at least China will have us by the short ones. At that point fossil fuels will be the only real alternative, though we'll be like Germany when the conversation turns to the Holocaust. Mules might be a good alternative.

i have the feeling that something revolutionary is going to come along in the world of EVs that more or less instantly makes everything else obsolete. When that happens, and I don’t know if this is it but it will happen, all of the companies like Ford that have invested billions in setting up for the current state of the art in EVs will more of less be instantly bankrupt.

That's pretty funny neighbor to the West.

If he could make money at it, Dutch would be right on it..............he's kinda that way.

Welp, until current battery tech improves, the amperage draw to charge up a battery like that in 10 minutes is a pipe dream. All that would happen with today’s batteries is a big fire.

New charging stations required? Charging during brown-outs from too much electric use?

Yep.

I'm pro E car as long as it's allowed to grow and develop naturally.
They really could be more efficient and cleaner. It's something to explore.

But I'm really not seeing that range and recharge merging anytime soon.

10 minutes?

It take close to 10 minutes to pump 745 miles worth of gas into a car.
If you had a car with a 745 mile range.

That article read to me like they have something in the works but don't want to tip their hand. It may sound like a pipe dream but there's alot of tech that exists now that people could have never imagined 10, 20, 30 years ago.

Is it that obvious, lol?

I'm much more into triggering the Luddites here than EV's. Call it a guilty pleasure.

There are INSANE amounts of dollars thrown at solid state battery research, but whoever figures it out first will have a license to print money. There's pre-production prototype solid state batteries being tested by major automakers as we speak, for use in development of the next generation EV's.

Meanwhile, the standard Li-ion Xpeng G9 can charge 140 mile range in under 9 minutes using their new 800V / 480 KW chargers. Probably not at home, though wink.

Toyota makes a brilliant car...

My 04 Corolla was somewhat less than brilliant, more like a POS, but there are exceptions to every rule I suppose.

What did that maintenance cost you?

ECU was under $300... The bus bar job was 14 hours @ $50... I tipped him $100.

Very little maintenance otherwise on a Prius.

I had a 96 corolla that ran & ran and never stopped. Barely used any gas. not much on pep or comfort, but a great commuter car.

There sure is, like conversing with people you've never met on the internet. Some still can't.

The fact that govt. is forcing EV crap makes me skeptical.

Seems like standardized, interchangeable batteries would solve a lot of problems.

Not bad, considering.

Not at all opposed to new stuff, as long as it works well. OTOH, mandated crapola pisses me off no end, especially when the mandators exclude themselves from the crap they stuff down our throats.
