A local listing. Don't know the owner of anything about the rifle. I just like looking at it. Beautiful cased outfit. 1874 Shiloh Sharps 45-70

I asked for more pics and got sent some of those same pics. Asked a bunch of questions which “crossbow John” has not answered. The price is a little ridiculous which was the first clue

Thanks Sharps1874, I also exchanged emails with the classified ad individual "crossbow John" Thanks for the link to the gun broker add. Crossbow John claimed that he had bought it from his brother. What seems too good to be true almost always is. Also verifies my bias against crossbows.

Crossbow John is persistent. I gave his info to the guy on Gunbroker that sold it to a local collector in Nevada

If I'm not mistaken, the pictured rifle appears to be an 1877 Sharps due to the shape of the pistol grip and trigger guard, as well as the single trigger. The hammer however resembles the 1874, rather than 1877. Lot to be suspicious of on this one...

Pretty much all the Creedmoor target models were configured that way. The 1877 rifles were the same rifles with a lightweight action and lock to allow longer, larger barrels and still make match weight of 10lbs The pistol grip shape is also consistent with those original models. As a matter of fact the gun pictured is a LOT more accurately style than most of the modern double triggered pistol gripped Sharps "sporters". Such configurations where actually very rare in the original 1874 rifles. Most of the double set triggered 1874 rifles were straight grips. None of those facts give any validity to the for sale listing shown. Most likely, it is a cut and paste internet scammer

The zebra skin rifle has a mid range tang sight, the cased gun has a long range tang sight…

My experience is limited to the currently produced Shiloh and other reproductions. I learned something...

In spite of all the questions raised, the title of the thread is correct. Nice rifle! Or rifles...

Real prices and Gunbroker prices may not even be close. I took a very nice Shiloh Sharps .45-70 to three large gun shows. I asked $2400.00. I had one offer of $2100.00; too low. I'll try the gun show again in October. I've had the gun more than thirty years. It's been fired little, but I won't give it away.

Lotech does your gun have a "B" prefix or suffix serial number? The Bryan family bought Shiloh from Wolfe Droege in 1991. Guns built by the Bryan's have the "B" prefix or suffix and usually resell closer to their list price depending on condition of course. There were some chambering and throating issues on early guns that take getting the best accuracy harder...mb

I just looked at my list; no letter prefix or suffix. Serial # is in the 7300s. I bought it used in January of 1990. Never had an accuracy problem. I could get 1.5" groups at 100 yards with the tang sight right after purchase using the Lyman 420 grain #457193. My eyes are still good but maybe not that good.
