What would be the best hose clamps to use from the tank to the motor on a outboard (20 hp yamaha 4 stroke ). Current hose clamps leak a bit.

I have never had issue with standard hose clamps.

Is the line a new line?

I would go ahead and put new line on.

Does the bulb pump up easily and hold prime?

Is the current hose one of those pre-assembled hoses?

If so toss the hose and clamps. Of bulb is good just buy new gas hose and replace both hose and clamps. Those pre-assembled hoses tend to have an inner hose that can collapse. Essentially starving the engine.

I think the "lined" type clamp is nice if you can find them.
If I need a deluxe job, I'll go to a "hose shop". These are the shops that can make up all kinds of hoses for your particular application.

I'm a fan of the spring clamps. As the hose compresses, they keep pressure on the hose.

Same way for terminal strips, the spring action ones are better than the screw down type.

Thanks for the tips/advice. Fuel line is good, just don't want any vapors. I think I'll go with with the spring clamps. If the're good enough for my wheeler they should work on the outboard

Does the Oetiker above require a special tool?

Sidecutters will work as long as you crimp a bit on one side then to the other, alternating until tight.

If good why is it leaking?

Was it stored with gas in the line??

If so was it ethanol free or standard gas with ethanol? If ethanol there is no way I would trust it to not be degraded on the inside of the line.

Change the line. It has hardened. You'll have trouble keeping the engine running. If gas leaks out air will leak in. I have suffered through it before.

The lined clamps and oetiker style help avoid some occasional scuffs/cuts made by the screw-down type (usually op error), but am guessing that the type of clamp is not your leak issue. Some good observations above about material hardening, ethanol damage, etc..

Even without those factors, given time and use some hoses develop cracks/tears where the clamp does its work. Someone advised to cut off the hose ends, clamp the hoses down again and get going. I would do that first.
