Been working a lot over the last couple years on top of having rugrats in diapers since 2017. Told the wife I could use a reset. She got together with my nephew and they planned a week out for me. First, was tickets to the MLB Home Run Derby: My wife found me a resort near one of my favorite lakes and booked it. Spent the rest of the week enjoying the scenery, the fishing, and being away from anyone or anything causing me any stress. Probably caught 50 smallmouth per day. The biggest fish were around 3 pounds, and there were only a few of those per day. The rest were 12 to 15 inchers like this: Even caught a few while fishing for walleye: For anyone who thinks of rain, clouds, and dark conifer forests when they think if Washington state, this is what 1/3 of the state looks like:

It was amazing! Didn’t have to worry about anything other than where/how I’d fish and whether the truck and boat had enough gas to get me there. Didn’t have to cut a day short because anyone was tired. Didn’t have to rig up anything for anyone else. No work calls. Just fished.
Thr lake is Banks Lake in E. WA. It’s undeveloped, so no houses or anything. Lots of big boulders and main lake humps that hold lots of bass and walleyes. Clouds of baitfish, crawfish, and emerging insects everywhere. Huge lake, so it wasn’t hard to get away from the few other people out there.

Once in a while, it feels good to be "gone."

1/3 of the state looks like that then it sounds like it’s a good fishing spot.

A lot of Smallmouths on light gear are about as good as it gets. Thanks for posting. This lake is perfect for light tackle. There is almost no wood cover. The fish relate to structure vs cover because of the lack of cover. I caught 75% of them on a 7’ light/medium spinning rod, 6# line and a dropshot.
