Sitting in my truck in the parking lot waiting for my wife to get done shopping (ever done that? ) anyway two spaces down from me a guy with Montana plates pulls in driving what at first glance looked like a little old Jeep. Upon closer observation, it turned out to be a Mahindra Roxor. First one of these I had ever seen. He had it all rigged out for the rough country: oversize tires, jacked up suspension, winch on the front bumper, little single cab canvas top, etc. Makes me wonder if they sell many of these and if they are any good. I know they sell scads of farm tractors. Any of these in your part of the country?

The Mahindra Thar is used a lot in the Kunene in Namibia for antipoaching work. Four wheel drive, independent front suspension and 2.2 liter Bosh turbo petrol. Because they are so light, they can go anywhere, they get fantastic mileage, and are easy on the tires. They cost about $5,200 USD. The fit and finish ain't much to be proud of, but they are damn tough. Little wonder why the Indian Military uses them.
Also the Suzuki Gypsy is another winner in the African wildveld. The locals beat them to crap but they take it. You'll break your spine before you damage the vehicle.

I think I saw the Roxors selling for about 20K on their website, with the little diesel engine. I have never seen one, but they are an interesting little vehicle. I don't think they're street-legal in most states, though. 20K is a lot of money for something you can't use on the street, at least it is, to me.
Still, it looks like it would be pretty handy on a farm or out in the woods.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Don't think they are road legal here. They can be street legal with a few add ons. Not sure what all must be added, but for sure brake lights/tail lights. The dealer can also remove the governor for more highway speed. I have a friend who has one and he is all over the roads with it. There is a dealer one county away, but he hasn't had stock in a long time.

They can be made street legal.....in a lot of states.
However, they are too big for trail riding on most public trails.
Cool little vehicle though.

Aunt and Uncle have one. Diesel with a 5sp manual. He put a set of 31” knobby tires on it and maybe a small lift, 2” if anything.
He loves it. It gets great mileage, goes anywhere, tagged and street legal. Other than the winter when they’re feeding hay he doesn’t drive anything else checking cattle and doing ranch work. Has a brand new pickup that just sits because he likes using the Roxor instead.
They had a JD sxs he used for a couple years and the Roxor cost less and is far more capable.

Cool little vehicle though. So can SxSs. Not here though, and I hope that doesn't change. A few have good reason to run SxSs on the road, and farmers get a pass. Most here though, are just groups of drunks riding in big groups for fun. Somehow, they think it's OK to DUI in one.

I don't see a gas engine option though.

I don't see a gas engine option though. That diesel engine will run 70mph... and get decent mileage doing it. Ain'tcha got a diesel talk out there?

I would just prefer to not have to mess with a diesel when it gets cold. I would replace a Polaris Ranger with a Roxor. That would be nice for me. UTV's are way too expensive and way to lightly built for the price of them.

Some counties in Northern Wisconsin allow ATV 's on every road.

Jim I’d swear they made gas ones at least in the recent past. Another farmer a few miles from my Aunt’s place has one he got the first year they imported them and I thought it was a gasser.
It could have just been a NA diesel, whatever it is I know he said it was sluggish compared to the turbo diesel out now.
ETA now that I’ve googled a little maybe his has the governor on it. Uncles doesn’t have the governor and it’ll run 70 down the highway if you want.

They talk about adding lights or a horn to make them street legal, but how about all the safety testing and emissions testing required of highway vehicles? If someone wanted to push it, probably none of the ATV's or UTV's used on the roads are legal. Don't be surprised to see the feds go after them one of these days.
