I do not have a clue what the rifle was for the first several, though a 760 in 35Whelen was one I used for a while early on and was pretty upset when I ofund out my father had sold it. He built another for me for a graduation present. An AI version in a 7600 with a myrtle stock...
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Mine was a small 3-point Whitetail, shot in Dec. 1964, with a 1917 vintage Lee-Enfield, complete with volley sight, but, with a cutdown stock. This belonged to a neighbour and was lent to me as I had no gun and my father, etc. did not hunt or shoot. seems like most all of my "firsts" were with borrowed guns.... my dad was a hunter, but seemed like, from the time i learned to talk, we never got along all that well... he's been gone for better'n 30 years now, and i still catch myself argueing with him... he taught me to shoot (required me to learn), but it wasn't fun that way... it was my brother, uncles, and cousins that put the fun in it... most of my first kills happened with their guns..... john w

My first buck, hand loaded 130gr spire points out of my M1 with open sights. Got him with one shot. I had to take a standing off hand shot, and he was trotting past me.
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

Straight stocked Marlin 30-30 with open sights, 110 yards, nice Doe, man was I excited. Still have that gun that my Dad gave me but, I have to admit, it now wears a scope.

Small spike whitetail with a M94 in 32spcl that was handed down from my grandfather through my dad. Both my brothers used the same rifle to start.

My first deer (in the great state of Virginia) was shot at self defense range with a Winchester Model 94 in 30-30. Now THAT was a great day in my life!

Remington 700 ADL .243 topped with a 3X9 Tasco, I earned 1/2 the money, and my granddaddy gave me the other 1/2. I was 11 years old and it was a deer killing machine. I killed around 10-12 with it between 11 and 15. Then at 15 I decided the .243 "Wasn't enough gun for deer" Sold it and bought a Custom P-14 in .300 mag and have kicked myself ever since. I now shoot a Herters J-9 in 6MM, so I guess I've come full circle.
