Been driving land cruisers for 25 years and was ready to get another (used since they quit making them) or a Lexus570/460.
Drove my cousins Taco TRD 4x4 a few days ago and loved it. It's a 2014 and I was surprised at how will it drove/handled. I'm looking at a new one - is there anything to look out for. Looking at the short bed TRD package... thanks

Our newest is a 2009, so I can't give you anything on the newer models. But, on that one, the electronic "safety" controls drove me nuts so I bought an older one for hunting. Don't need 100 beepers and alarms telling me how to drive. Also do not like the sport package handling is choppy and nervous.

FYI, Toyota went to a different engine in 2015 or 2016 with the 3rd gen trucks. It has not been as well received. Starting with 2024's the 4th gen Tacoma is going to have a small 4cyl turbocharged engine. I'd wait for a while to see how it performs. I sort'a think it will be a huge improvement over the 3rd gens, but only time will tell.
FWIW, my 2007 is still going strong with 239,000 miles on it. If you loved the 2014 you might want to be looking for one of the last 2nd gen trucks with the proven 4.0L engine.

Banks peddle monster https://bankspower.com/collections/throttle-controllers3rd gen V-6 will scorch the tires…mucho power 3rd Gen can take 33’s without a lift or mods but will have to get slim tires and offset wheels. 32’s no problem. 255/75-17 on factory wheels work good, most sports have 17”.

Had a 2006 2011 and 2014 and no more for me. Uncomfortable as hell on a long trip for starters . They are still better then any other mid sized full frame midsize truck.

The new one looks interesting. I think it's going to be offered with a turbo four and the option of an electric motor with the gas one to give it more power. My 2021 f150 powerboost has a twin turbo 6 and an electric motor and it's got lots of power and gets decent mileage.
I'm waiting to see if the 2025 camry will have a plug in hybrid with all wheel drive. That would make a good run around car for my wife.

I’ve owned a 2010 Taco and a 2017 Tundra, the only thing that really bugged me about either was the fuel mileage. Very poor, hopefully they’ve improved on that.

My 2010 was a much better truck than my 2016. The 2016 had more bells and whistles but the engine in the 2010 was better. I regret trading my 2010 for the 2016 to this day. Traded the 2016 for a 2019 Highlander and use that with my 6X10 trailer. I'll have another truck one day but it will most likely be a full-size vehicle.

They hold their value well, go buy one. If you don’t like it trade/sell it and get something else.

I have an 08 with the big V6 and 4x4. Never had a need for more power. Fuel mileage is nothing to write home about but its not terrible. Good road..good ride, rough road..rough ride but its a truck. Kind expected that. I like mine just fine.

I’ve got a handful of LCs and a 2020 Tacoma with the manual in it. With the exception on the latest land cruiser, they’re all under powered unless a Toyota is all that you drive. The Tacoma has been reliable, but is not particularly comfortable. Reliability and resale is the main reason I can see to have one. If you trade/sell vehicles regularly, I’d look elsewhere.

Have been enjoying my 2017 TRD Sport. Heard the 24's all have turbos. I would wait a while on a new one.
