I have 4 of them and they still go hunting. They work too well to replace.

:-) And I'll keep 'em warmed up for him. That 30-30, in particular... needs to be shot. It told me so.

Nothing like a Win 94' in your hands. Have my wifes chambered in the .30-30AI and she is quite confident in its abilities to shoot moose and black bear. An easy carry and accurate and with the right bullet a game getter.

My father has been hunting since 1950 and has never used anything but his modle 54 win 30-30 to kill everything. I still have 2 modle 94's in the same cal. just haven't used them since I got the 7-08

I hadn't used the .30-30 in years....until recently. Picked up a Savage 1899 (1905 manufactured) with original tang sight in .30-30 caliber and just had to take it to the woods once again. Not my first choice of caliber, but the dead deer didn't seem to know the difference......and a great old rifle was once again doing what it was made for.

It just doesn't get any better for deer in the woods than a good 30-30. I forget that from time to time and my two 30-30s remind me.

It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

My son is an Iraqi Theater Veteran, he saved for a Model 94 that he purchased when he was 14 years old. There are plenty of other rifles around, and he always has that 30-30 in his mit. They have several deer and a bear or two to their credit.
He had some of that post combat stress from some ugly stuff that his unit went through. He said he never wanted to shoot again. I bought him some bullets, brass, powder, and dies for Christmas a couple of years ago. He likes to reload and shoot just fine now. I am really happy for that 30-30 Winchester.

Does an old .32 WS count? I inherited a Winchester built in 1904, in 2004, and took it out on it's 100th birthday for a hunt (in the rain) and got a deer with it! Thing shoots a foot high (it has a Marbles rear sight) so I had to aim at the bottom of her chest. She took about 3 steps, got wobbly, and fell down.
The guys at the gunshop checked the headspace and it didn't pass... but I figured, as many rounds as it had obviously had through it, what were the chances the NEXT one would be the one where it let go? :-) So I took 'er hunting...

I had my eyes on a Win. 94 in .30-30, but got to jonesin' for a .356 Win. and got that instead. I'm going to stay with it the rest of the season unless I'm on one of the bigger fields.

Mr. Triggernosis: My current hiking rifle and the one that rides under my left leg on non-hunting rides is a mid 70s vintage 94 .30-30. Ive worked it over some and use a combination of a folding open sight for close in and a 100year old Lyman folding tang sight that is zeroed at 130yds or so.
I must confess to not actually hunting with it for a few years, but Ive shot a couple deer with it in the past. It also once assassinated a coyote that was maybe a couple hundred yards out on a snowy sagebrush bowl, so they can hit stuff beyond the 100yds everyone knows they are limited to.
I like the cartridge and the little lever guns, they work fine within reason, but I suppose that could be said for a lot of combinations.
All the best to you this Christmas season. Dwayne
